‘The Masked Singer’ Reveals Identity of Lizard: Here Is the Celebrity Under the Costume
SPOILER ALERT: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 11, Episode 5 of “ The Masked Singer ,” “Group C Finals: Shower Anthems Night,” which aired April 3 on Fox. After two weeks of being on “The Masked Singer” chopping block, Sisqó is finally gone-guh-gone-gone-gone. I think I’ll sing it again: Sisqó’s been dumped like a truck, truck, truck. “The Masked Singer” has removed his butt, butt, butt. Let me see (who sang) that song! That’s right, “ Thong Song ” superstar Sisqó on Wednesday became the latest celebrity to be unmasked on “The Masked Singer,” revealed to be the Lizard. For Sisqó as the Lizard, several of the panelists had figured it out. Robin Thicke and Rita Ora knew it was Sisqó. Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg picked Ray J. Ken Jeong said it was Michael Bivins. Lizard was voted out after being one of the two lowest vote-getters in the two previous episodes. He managed to beat Billy Bush as Sir Lion and Joe Bastianich as Spaghetti & Meatballs, but this week the beat no longer went da na da na. That left Poodle Moth and Clock to battle it out for the Group C win via a “battle royale.” The duo sang “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. The winner was Clock, who secured a spot in the Season 11 finale as the Group C champion. For Poodle Mom, Robin Thicke guessed it was Shania Twain. Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg picked Mandy Moore. Ken Jeong said it was Brooke Shields. Rita Ora thought it was Sharon Stone. But we don’t actually know who it is just yet. That’s because the panelists used the “Ding Dong Keep Them On” bell to save Poodle Mom from leaving. As a result, even though this episode was originally supposed to be a double elimination, Poodle Moth will move on to the finals as well. Sisqó as Lizard joins Billy Bush (Sir Lion), Joe Bastianich (Spaghetti & Meatballs), Savannah Chrisley (Afghan Hound) and Kevin Hart (Book) as the celebrities unmasked on “The Masked Singer” this season. It was “Shower Themes Night,” which may explain why host Nick Cannon didn’t wear a shirt on the episode. Back for Season 11 are host Nick Cannon, alongside panelists Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke, while Rita Ora has joined the desk to fill in for Nicole Scherzinger, who was in London to star on the West End’s “Sunset Boulevard.” “The Masked Singer” Season 11 features themed episodes including “The Wizard of Oz,” in celebration of the 85th anniversary of the classic film; “Transformers” (marking the brand’s 40th anniversary) and music tributes including “Billy Joel Night” and “Queen Night.” Additional themes include “Girl Groups,” “Soundtrack of My Life,” “TV Theme Night” and “Shower Anthems.” With sixteen total celebrity singers, including three “wildcards,” Season 11 features new costumes including “Gumball,” “Lizard,” “Ugly Sweater,” “Goldfish,” “Starfish,” “Book,” “Gumball,” “Miss Cleocatra,” “Afghan Hound,” “Beets,” “Poodle Moth,” “Clock,” “Spaghetti & Meatballs,” “Lizard” and “Sir Lion.” According to the show, the Season 11 contestants boast a combined 22 Grammy nominations, 11 platinum albums, 33 Teen Choice nominations, 108 million records sold, 326 film appearances and 1.7 billion Spotify streams. Here were the Group C finale performances on Wednesday’s Episode 5, “Shower Anthems Night”: Song: “Respect,” by Aretha Franklin Panel guesses: Tina Knowles, Debbie Allen, Denice Williams, Diana Ross Clue: Rubber duck that says “Nick.” “Nicholas, this isn’t the first time you’ve hosted me.” Package voiceover: “TV theme night was such a good time. I’m honored to be in the Group C finale, because in my line of work, we love a curtain call. In this case, a shower curtain call. There’s something about the show that gives me the courage to belt out the biggest diva hits of all time. And let me tell you, I’ve been amongst them. You see, I was nominated for one of the most prestigious awards against some legendary ladies: Queen Aretha and Natalie Cole. I didn’t think I’d win, so I stayed home literally scrubbing the kitchen floor. And then, I won! I actually won! And I gave my acceptance speech to the mop. Instead of to millions. Can you imagine? So take it from Aretha. When it’s your time to shine, you better show up and respect yourself.” Previous songs: “Piano Man,” by Billy Joel; “Good Times,” by Blinky and Jim Gilstrap Previous panel guesses: Anita Baker, Evelyn Champagne King, Diana Ross, Stephanie Mills, Debbie Allen, Janet Jackson Song: “The House That Built Me,” by Miranda Lambert Panel guesses: Sharon Stone, Brooke Shields, Shania Twain Clue: Soap on a rope that says “Robin.” “Robin, working with your dad is part of one of the biggest moments of my career in my life.” Package voiceover: “Being here as the Poodle Moth has really helped me spread my wings. Music has always been my therapy. And while some people sing pop hits in the shower for fun, I use it as a time for total emotional release. And I let the tears fall when I sing. Like when our family sold my childhood home. That house was filled with some pretty tumultuous memories. Growing up was tough. There was so much sadness within those walls. I dreamed of leaving it. Yet when it came time to clean out the kitchen, repaint the hallway, I couldn’t help but feel like a part of me was gone. But, that was the house that built me, for better or for worse. Living there taught me resilience, and now I try to lock the doors on the negative memories and open windows to positivity. And thanks to a few good shower cries, I know I can push through to begin each day confident and free.” Previous songs: “Just the Way You Are,” by Billy Joel; “Unwritten,” by Natasha Bedingfield Previous panel guesses: Trisha Yearwood, Wynonna Judd, Rita Wilson, Melissa McCarthy, Lauren Graham, Connie Britton Song: “Bring Me to Life,” by Evanescence Panel guesses: Sisqó, D’Angelo, Michael Bivins Clue: “Rita” on a loofah.” “Rita, I’m honored to say, we both have won the same out-of-this-world award.” Package voiceover: “I can’t believe I fought my way out of a second smackdown. I go full emo, I’m talking the anthem of troubled teens everywhere. Before I could even drive, I was living two lives. I got straight As in school, but after school, I was running the streets with the bad crowd. I was messing up so much I saw the inside of a jail cell more than once. That last time, I took a long look in the mirror and realized the thug life just wasn’t for me. And from that moment on, I stayed in a different direction and cleaned up my act. But I never forgot those dark days and the wakeup call I desperately needed.” Previous songs: “Uptown Girl,” by Billy Joel; “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?,” by Larry Marks Previous panel guesses: Michael Bivins, Ricky Bell, Ronnie DeVoe, Ralph Tresvant, Ray J, Sisqó Last season’s performers included Ne-Yo as Cow, John Schneider as Donut, Macy Gray as Sea Queen and Janel Parrish as Gazelle join John Oates as Anteater, Keyshia Cole as Candelabra, Sebastian Bach as Tiki, Ginuwine as Husky, Ashley Parker Angel as S’more, Metta World Peace as Cuddle Monster, Luann de Lesseps as Hibiscus, Tyler Posey as Hawk, Billie Jean King as Royal Hen, Michael Rapaport as Pickle, Tom Sandoval as Diver, Anthony Anderson as Rubber Ducky and one-time special guest Demi Lovato as Anonymouse. Fox Alternative Entertainment is behind “The Masked Singer,” which is exec produced by showrunner James Breen, Craig Plestis, and Nick Cannon. The series is based on the South Korean format created by Mun Hwa Broadcasting Corp.
