Stop UK’s arms sales It shouldn’t have taken the deaths of Western aid workers to jolt the world’s conscience about the horrors in
Gaza . The operation by the
Israeli Defence Force has gone far beyond the reasonable right of a country to defend its borders. More than 32,000 Palestinian civilians have been killed, hundreds of thousands more are suffering from malnutrition and disease. There is a desperate and urgent need to deliver aid to Gaza but agencies have had to pause their relief missions as they can no longer guarantee the safety of their staff. The Israeli government should now agree a ceasefire and open border crossings to allow the passage of emergency aid.
Benjamin Netanyahu has shown scant regard for international law, for the loss of life or for those who trying to alleviate the terrible plight of the
Palestinians. It is not enough to issue words of condemnation at his actions. The
British Government should halt all arms sales to Israel immediately. Unless we signal our revulsion, the brutality visited on the innocent will only continue.
