Price reductions for gas and electric bills in Northern
Ireland come into affect from April 1 (Image: Getty Images/iStockphoto) Gas and electric prices in
Northern Ireland are beginning to fall this week. From April 1, energy bills for many are beginning to reduce, as a result of wholesale natural gas prices falling since they peaked after Russia's invasion of
Ukraine in February 2022. Consumers are now beginning to feel the impact of these price reductions, however, many people are continuing to struggle with costs as the typical annual gas bill in Northern Ireland remains higher than in Great Britain. Britain and the Republic of Ireland. However, a typical annual gas bill of £1,079 for SSE Airtricity and £1,151 for Firmus energy is more expensive than the average bill in Great Britain (£891) but less expensive than the Republic of Ireland (£1,359). We've put together a guide to energy bills price changes coming into effect from this week in Northern Ireland and how they will impact your annual spend. Electricity prices Power NI, Northern Ireland's largest electricity supplier, is cutting its prices by 6.3% from April 1. This will save the average household £63 per year on their bill, impacting around 500,000 household customers. Last month, SSE Airtricity also cut its price for customers in Northern Ireland by 6.3%. The move affected 141,000 homes with the supplier saying it will save the typical household around £74 per year. Budget Energy also cut its electricity prices by 9% in March. The company, which has around 80,000 customers here, said this would save household customers around £110 per year. Gas prices SSE Airtricity has said it will cut its prices by 22.8% from April , which will save a typical household £320.47 per year. The fall in heating prices is expected to affect over 200,000 customers. Firmus Energy has also announced it will cut its prices by 15.6% from April , saving a typical household around £220.82 per year. It follows previous tariff decreases from the supplier during 2023 and will be welcomed by almost 112,000 domestic and small business Firmus Energy gas customers.
