Former Prime Minister Liz Truss has been mocked after posing with an uncomfortable-looking lamb outside a derelict church in a bizarre Easter message. The Tory backbencher shared a picture of herself holding the animal outside St Mary’s church in Beachamwell, which was devastated by a blaze two years ago. The former PM shared the smiling picture of herself on
Twitter /X, but was met with a fierce reaction from critics. Ms Truss, who held the top
Job between September and October 2022, wrote simply "Happy Easter" as she clung on to the lamb. One commenter responded: "Standing in front of a defunct church holding a poor lamb so badly it’s trying to escape. A metaphor of your mercifully short premiership." Another wrote: "I see you’re consulting someone with a better grasp of economics than you." And one user posted: "Be careful, that lamb could be in the Deep State." Since leaving office, Ms Truss has continued to vent about all the forces she blames for tanking the
economy after her disastrous mini-budget sent interest rates soaring and left pension funds on the brink of collapse. Last month she shamelessly blamed a 'Deep State' for sabotaging her premiership. A safety sign is visible in the shot outside the 11th century church. It was wrecked by a huge
fire in February 2022, when a spark from welding work landed on the thatched roof. Extensive repair works are being carried out after the devastating blaze, which required 10 fire crews to put it out. The visit to her constituency came after she spent most of February in the
United States , accepting more than £32,000 worth of freebies and hospitality from
American right-wingers. She attended a conference of shadowy conservative figures held on a private island, with flights and accommodation worth £19,541. The globetrotting former PM stayed at a five-star hotel called The Cloister on the private Sea Island off the coast of Georgia, US, in February. Ms Truss then spent 10 days skiing in the US as a guest of Brian Klein, at a cost of £4,085. Ms Truss said the purpose of the visit was "skiing and meetings”, but her team would not give any details about Mr Klein’s identity. After her ski trip, Ms Truss travelled to
Washington for the right-wing CPAC conference, which also saw speeches by
