Tess Daly will no doubt be celebrating with her two daughters and husband as she marks turning 55 today. When she isn't working as a hugely successful TV presenter, the
Strictly Come Dancing star enjoys an idyllic family life in the Buckinghamshire countryside. Tess married fellow broadcaster Vernon in 2003 and the couple have daughters Phoebe, 19 and Amber, 14. "I love being a mum," she said. "It’s my most important
Job." The couple began dating after meeting on the set of Channel 4's T4, with Tess saying it was an instant connection. "It was all quite immediate, really because we instantly had such a blast together," she told Digital Spy. "I couldn't imagine having more fun with anyone else. It was pretty explosive, I tell you." The grounds have room for Tess's treasured Shetland ponies Honey and Willow and a swimming pool for long hot summers. Tess and Vernon even made themselves an "experimental" vegetable patch in lockdown, growing raspberries and strawberries. Inside the home lies a huge, monochromatic kitchen which opens onto a lounge area filled with light thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. Tess likes to cook healthy meals for her family, who have a home gym to workout in too. Tess and Vernon celebrated their 20-year wedding anniversary last year and she joked of her husband: "I guess he is the same, but more mature. You know what men are like, they never really grow up, do they?" The presenter feels working on their relationship is important, saying: "You keep the
fire burning, you keep stoking that fire." Phoebe has now flown the family nest to study at drama school, with Vernon saying: "It only feels like two minutes since they were both in nappies". "You just have to advise them and gently guide the way," added Tess on the Spinning Plates podcast. "It has to feel like they're reaching their own decisions in life. They need more life advice, there seems to be more mental hand-holding. 'You never stop parenting. I don't know when that all-seeing eye ends." Tess also told the show about her worries over her older daughter Phoebe learning to drive. "She's only gone for 20 minutes and I'm a nervous wreck," she laughed. "It's ridiculous. Loosen the leash!" She says her husband is the slightly stricter parent. "Vernon is a great dad – he loves them to bits," she said. "I don’t know if there’s a good cop, bad cop, but maybe he’s a little stricter sometimes." The happy family also love their holidays, including a trip to
California last summer. The family were seen enjoying bike rides along the coast and a horse ride on the beach. Other lavish trips have included the Maldives and Dubai with the family also enjoying
UK breaks to Cornwall and Dorset. Follow Mirror Celebs on Snapchat ,
