Promising Young Woman Promising Young Woman is the feature debut from Saltburn writer-director Emerald Fennell Before shocking the world with Saltburn, writer-director Emerald Fennell’s feature debut earned her an Oscar win for Best Original Screenplay. This Sky Original thriller stars Carey Mulligan as a troubled young woman haunted by a tragic event in her past as she seeks out revenge against those who have crossed her. The film was nominated in five Oscar categories, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress. E.T. Steven Spielberg's beloved classic tells the heart-warming tale of an alien stranded on Earth and the children who befriend him Steven Spielberg’s family favourite is the movie that made Drew Barrymore a household name aged just seven. It tells the story of Elliott (Henry Thomas), a boy who becomes Friends with an extra-terrestrial called E.T. who has been left behind by his family here on Earth. With the help of his family and friends, Elliott sets out to help E.T. find his way back home. Erin Brockovich A twice-divorced mother of three sees an injustice and takes on the bad guys in this legal drama This iconic movie is a dramatization of the true story of Erin Brockovich, a young woman who initiated a legal case against the Pacific Gas and Electric Company over its role in the Hinkley groundwater contamination. Julia Roberts shines in the titular role and earned herself the Oscar for Best Actress – the only Oscar the movie won out of five nominations. The Danish Girl Eddie Redmayne as Einar Wegener/Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl Based on the novel of the same name, this film is inspired by the lives of Danish painters Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Eddie Redmayne stars as Elbe – one of the first individuals to undergo gender-affirming surgery – and Alicia Vikander as Wegener. Both actors’ performances were praised, with the pair receiving Oscar nominations for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress respectively – with Vikander winning in her category.
