Bruno Fernandes has called Kobbie Mainoo 's
England debut the "first of many." The
Manchester United midfielder came on as a substitute for the Three Lions against
Brazil in Saturday's friendly at Wembley Stadium. 17-year-old Brazilian wonderkid Endrick scored in the 80th minute to hand England their first defeat since the 2022
World Cup. But England's defeat did little to dampen any joy from Mainoo, who only made his senior Man United debut in November. The 18-year-old has called his first international appearance a "special feeling." "Special feeling making my senior @England debut at Wembley and in front of my family. A moment I will never forget. Now we bounce back and refocus for Tuesday," he said on
Instagram followed by a red love heart emoji. Fellow Man United players have also commented, with Luke Shaw saying: "What a player", whilst Harry Maguire commented: "Deserved mate." Alejandro Garnacho also wrote: "What a guy." Mainoo's next opportunity to impress for England will come on Tuesday against
Belgium. The central midfielder was originally called up to the England U-21 side before Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate chose to pick him for the games against Brazil and Belgium. When asked about Mainoo's performance against Brazil, Southgate said: "Kobbie was a chance to dip his toes. To get Kobbie on the pitch was a brilliant moment for him and his family. "You saw a couple of turns and composed moments. There’s a bit of an indication about what he might become.” It has been a remarkable rise for Mainoo who has made just 20 senior appearances in all competitions for United.
