We all love a takeaway as a treat, and the last thing you'd expect when tearing open your delivery is a savage note from restaurant staff. But that's exactly what one woman experienced when she recieved her McDonald's delivery, as a cruel insult was scribed on the packaging of her order. Primary school teacher Emily ordered two large Coca Colas from her local McDonald's in North Sherwood Street, Telford, and for ease, she had ordered it via the Just Eat app. Emily Smith* was enjoying a Saturday night in with her parents and decided to order the drinks, but was stunned when the McDonald's staff branded her a "lazy s**t" in the delivery note. Lazy s**t"' along with two smiley faces just to add insult to injury. The last two words had been half-heartedly crossed out but were still easily readable to see what was said. Emily took to X, formerly known as
Twitter to share the note she'd been left and wrote: "Not sure how acceptable this is???" and tagged McDonald's to spark a response. Mcdonald's responded to her post and according to Emily, they apologised, called the behaviour unacceptable and said there had been "appropriate action" taken against the staff. However, Emily was left "disgusted" by the whole ordeal. She said: "I was disgusted really. I initially found it funny but when I thought more about it, there's not a funny side. It took a while for it to come and when I peeled back the first seal, I saw on the front it said enjoy your food with a smiley face. I thought this was strange. "There was writing underneath so I pulled that one back and it said 'Enjoy your food, lazy s**t'. It was very condescending. It doesn't make sense at all. "It's crossed out but you can clearly still read it. It comes across like two people. No one knows the circumstances. For them to judge is not right. I work in teaching and on the weekends I want to just chill and if I want to order a Just Eat, I will. Before I started teaching I worked in hospitality myself. You get all sorts of customers but that's not something you'd ever do, no matter what." Emily also decided to call the McDonald's branch she had ordered from, and she claimed as compensation she was offered a free medium meal and that they would investigate further - but said she hasn't heard any more. She added: "I wasn't really bothered about that, I was more bothered about how rude it was. "The problem is it's for a free meal at that specific store. I'm not going to redeem it. No, thank you. It has massively put me off going back. I don't want to put my money into a franchise when they treat their customers like that. "My parents were fuming. My dad tried to find the franchise owner and my mum was angry and wanted to speak to them but I wanted to leave it. It was Saturday night. I was in my pyjamas and I was going to walk down and take the bag with me but I thought it would cause more issues." A McDonald's spokesperson said: "We'd like to apologise to this customer. This incident was completely unacceptable and is in no way in keeping with our company values or what we expect from our employees. "As soon as we were made aware, a full investigation was conducted. The employees responsible have been identified and the appropriate action is being taken.
