A woman who ditched the nightly takeaways and lost 11 stone has found the confidence to dress-up in superhero costumes. Jade Morrissey, 27, piled on the pounds after binge eating chocolate and crisps every night. At her biggest, she was tipping the scales at 21st 4lb and squeezing into a size 26. She suffered a catalogue of health issues including acid reflux and had a ''wake-up call'' during an endoscopy – which involved sending a camera down her throat. Due to her size, doctors said it was too dangerous to put her to sleep, so Jade was left “traumatised” after having the procedure awake. It spurred her into action and in January 2023, she signed up to the gym and completely overhauled her diet. Now the care assistant finally feels comfortable to cosplay with husband Adam Morrissey, 28, a children's entertainer. Some of her favourite outfits she can now fit into include Supergirl, Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel. Jade, from Swansea , Wales, said: "My husband and I love cosplay. He always goes as Superman or Batman, and wanted to join in. "But I never had the confidence dress-up or go out in public when I was bigger. I couldn't believe it when I finally fit into my

Jade Morrissey before her weight loss Jade really began to put on weight in 2022 after suffering a miscarriage and she turned to food for comfort. She would regularly binge eat takeaways and late-night snacks. Jade said: “It was such a difficult time, I was really depressed. Most nights would be a Chinese takeaway finished with a tub of ice cream – I dread to think how many calories I ate. “I really hated looking into the mirror. It was a vicious cycle.” As Jade’s weight increased, her health began to go downhill. She struggled to walk due to joint pain and was often out of breath after climbing stairs. Jade Morrissey after her weight loss. She said: "The turning point really came during the endoscopy. 'I couldn’t believe I was too big for them to use anaesthetic. "I realised how badly my weight was affecting my life. It was such a horrific experience, having the camera down my throat while I was wide awake. “It was such a big scare for me." Jade was determined to make a change and in February 2022 she signed up to the Penyrheol Gym, Swansea, with her mum Deborah Thomas, 53, an independent living officer. She also ditched the nightly takeaways and used the money to get a personal trainer, Cameron Westcott, once a week. Alongside her husband she started making healthy, homecooked meals from scratch. Jade Morrissey's excess skin Before long, the weight began drop off and in just over a year, Jade lost a whopping 11 stone. She said: "I wanted to push myself and I really started to enjoy the gym. "Now I go about six times a week. I finally felt ready to buy my own cosplay costumes, and used them to help me lose the last bit of weight. "It felt amazing going out dressed-up. Adam has been the biggest support." After the weight loss, Jade has been left with excess skin on her stomach and is funding raising to get it removed. I don't want to risk going abroad, I've not heard good things, so I'm hoping to raise enough to do it in the UK. "If anyone is thinking of losing weight, I say do it.
