'Boris Johnson has lost whatever shred of dignity he had left'

Rule-breaker Boris Johnson is damned by his own dodgy dossier. His “bombshell” report has exploded in his face – and blaming everybody except himself for those lockdown-busting parties in Downing Street just won’t wash. We await the verdict of the Commons ­Privilege Committee, which grills Johnson today, but his written submission, photographs by a vanity snapper and other evidence look like enough for a prosecution and ban from Parliament for misleading MPs. Johnson is taking the country for fools by pretending he was somehow duped about the regulations he, as Prime Minister, imposed. Shameless Johnson is a serial liar and a laughing stock. He has lost whatever shred of dignity he had left after multiple scandals as PM. So when MPs vote today, we hope they will back the proposed deal with the European Union to reduce trade bureaucracy between Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Tories of the discredited, weakened ­European Research Group would have zero status if they didn’t retain a Brexit grievance. And the suspicion is that the DUP need an excuse to stymie power-sharing to block a historic Sinn Fein First Minister.
