"I am going to come in and kill you all" - These are the words shouted by a thug as he smashed his sister's windows. Shaun Pattyson, 28, used a
baseball bat as he carried out the attack in May 2022. The frightened family inside managed to barricade themselves in a bedroom. It came just seven days after the dad-of-three headbutted the headteacher of Chesterton Community Sports College in an attack which led to him being jailed. Now Pattyson has been spared jail at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court after the judge heard that he has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He was instead sentenced to two years in
prison, suspended for two years, StokeonTrentLive reports . READ MORE: Tragedy as man found dead in Staffordshire property Martin Liddiard, prosecuting, said: "He got out of his car with a bat or a similar weapon and smashed the house up,
BREAKING multiple windows and causing £2,500 worth of damage. He smashed all the glass in the front windows causing them to shatter on a 14-year-old lad who was on the living room sofa. He began to shout threats through the broken window. He said, 'I am going to come in and kill you all'. It was said regularly and with aggression. "They were terrified that he was going to carry out those threats. Three other children were inside the house. They were taken from their bedroom and locked inside their parents' bedroom. They called the
police and barricaded themselves in their home. They stayed locked away until the police arrived." Pattyson, of Brewster Road, Bucknall, admitted affray and two charges of criminal damage. Stuart Muldoon, defending, said: "At the time he was going through a mental health crisis. He had not been diagnosed so was not receiving the medication or assistance he is now receiving. He has now been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He is still taking his medication and is complying fully with his post-sentence supervision." The suspended sentence includes 100 hours unpaid work and a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement. He is now subject to an indefinite restraining order preventing him from contacting his sister and he must pay her £1,000 compensation. Recorder Julian Taylor said: "It was a shocking piece of behaviour. You have a background that troubles me. You can't control your emotions and temper. I hope that is now changing. "You knew there were three young children inside the house. They had to be barricaded inside their parents' bedroom. It was a very traumatic incident. I hope you are thoroughly ashamed of yourself."
