‘LCA Tejas well ahead of Pakistan-China’s JF-17 aircraft’: IAF chief Bhadauria
Asserting that the made in India light combat aircraft Tejas is far better and advanced than the Chinese-Pakistani JF-17 fighter jets, Air Force chief RKS Bhadauria on Thursday said the latest Indian jet would be better equipped to carry out Balakot-type airstrikes. the Air Chief said the 83 indigenous fighter jets to be inducted into the force would also be equipped with homegrown weapons such as the Astra beyond visual range air to air missiles and other standoff weapons. "Indian aircraft Tejas is far better and advanced than the Chinese and Pakistan joint venture JF-17 fighter," Bhadauria said when asked to compare the Indian fighter with the JF-17. Haryana CM inaugurates India's first air taxi service from Chandigarh to Hisar
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated air taxi services on Thursday. The air taxi service was launched from Chandigarh to Hisar under the UDAN scheme of the Central government. Khattar informed that air services would also start from Hisar to Dehradun in the second phase, while in the third phase two more routes will be added. "These air taxis will be four-seaters and have a speed limit of 250 km/hour. For the first time in the country, a small aircraft in the form of an air taxi is being used for services," the CM said. He added, "In the second phase, services for Hisar to Dehradun will be started on January 18. In the third phase, two more routes from Chandigarh to Dehradun and Hisar to Dharamshala will be added on January 23."

Watch: 2-day defence exercise ‘Sea Vigil’ tests India’s maritime preparedness
India's preparedness to deal with all possible challenges in the maritime domain, including contingencies from peace to war-time, was tested in a two-day multi-agency military exercise that covered the 7,516 km-long coastline and exclusive economic zone, officials said on Thursday. The second edition of exercise 'Sea Vigil', which concluded on Wednesday evening, particularly focused on the efficacy of the measures initiated to plug gaps in the coastal security set up following the Mumbai terror attack in 2008, they said. The Indian Navy said the "envisaged objectives" of the exercise were met by the whole-hearted participation of all stakeholders. The exercise involved deployment of the entire coastal security apparatus and more than 110 surface assets of the Indian Navy and the Coast Guard participated in the exercise that was billed as India's largest coastal defence drill, the officials said.

‘4 days a week at 81 sites’: Delhi CM Kejriwal gives vaccination drive details
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said Delhi is prepared to begin its vaccination drive from January 16. After reviewing the preparedness, Kejriwal said initially vaccination will be carried out on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of every week. On January 16, the drive will be carried out at 81 centres, which will gradually be increased to 175 and then to 1,000 across the city. Vaccines that arrived in the Capital in the past few days are being stored at Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital. A three-layer security cover has been put in place to keep an eye on vaccine storage. Vaccination drive in the national capital will be kicked off from the LNJP Hospital with a simple ceremony in the presence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and health minister Satyendar Jain. Other vaccination centres in Delhi include the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Safdarjung Hospital, GTB Hospital, Apollo Hospitals, Max Hospital, etc.

Traditional bull-taming sport Jallikattu began in Tamil Nadu on Thursday with certain Covid-19 restrictions. More than 200 bulls participated in the competition at Avaniyapuram in Madurai. Dr Samiran Panda, scientist, India Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin will also provide immunity against covid-19 mutants.
