Piers Morgan has hit out at health secretary Matt Hancock for “sneaking back onto ITV” now that he’s on holiday.
When lockdown restrictions were first introduced in the UK, the Good Morning
Britain presenter won praise for the way he conducted interviews with many MPs about the government’s handling of the
Coronavirus crisis.
However, it seemed that not everyone was so enthused, with the Good Morning Britain presenter later claiming that government ministers had been “banned” from appearing on the ITV morning show.“The
UK Govt has banned any ministers from appearing on @GMB after a series of them made complete fools of themselves in the face of basic & important questions,” he tweeted.
“This is a pathetic & cowardly response to THEIR shameful incompetence.”
Piers is now on his annual summer break from GMB, but even while spending time in the Saint Tropez sun, he clearly still had one eye on what was going on over at his usual haunt.
After seeing Matt Hancock being interviewed on Lorraine on Wednesday morning, he tweeted: “Awww, look who sneaked back onto ITV the moment I left the country. .. it’s our fearless Health Secretary @MattHancock.”Awww, look who sneaked back onto ITV the moment I left the country. .. it’s our fearless Health Secretary @MattHancock ! 👇 pic.twitter.com/looc9ABxQf— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) July 15, 2020Back in May, Piers hit out at Hancock for declining an invitation to appear on GMB, but still appeared on rival shows
BBC Breakfast and This Morning.
“He’s chosen an easy ride over tough questioning,” Piers fumed on
Twitter. “Very unlike Mr Hancock who normally has the balls to defend his decisions. He’s obviously now lost them.”
Addressing Hancock directly, Piers added: “Do you think it is right for the Health Secretary to boycott a major UK breakfast TV news show during the biggest health crisis for 100 years?
“Why are @GMB viewers not worthy of your time & vital information which might save their lives?”No, he’s chosen an easy ride over tough questioning.
