The racists who rightfully paid the price for their vile views
These are just some of the people from across the Midlands who have found themselves in hot water over their racist views. Whether they hurled abuse at underserving victims or sent messages which highlighted their prejudices, they have all paid a price for their actions. So-called Football fans have seen themselves banned from games - and even jailed - for spitting venom during a match. England ace Raheem Sterling and former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand were both subjected to vile outbursts as they simply tried to do their jobs. Meanwhile a former detective's career came crashing down when messages came to light that showed there was "no place for her in policing". You'll find more details of the abhorrent behaviour in the round up below. Marcus Whitcombe caused havoc aboard the number 14 in Birmingham on October 3 last year. He spat at the driver six times, called him racial slurs and threatened to 'hang him by his Turban' before turning on a passenger who tried to intervene and punching him in the mouth. Whitcombe was arrested shortly afterwards by two police officers who he also spat at. He admitted two charges of racially-aggravated assault and two of assaulting an emergency worker and was jailed for 12 months. Clare Davenport Former Detective Constable Clare Davenport (Image: StokeonTrentLive) This disgraced detective quit before she was sacked when her 'racist views' came to light. Former Detective Constable Clare Davenport, who worked for Staffordshire Police, saw her long career come to a crushing end when an investigation found her actions amounted to gross misconduct. She has now been told she can never work for any police force again . An accelerated misconduct hearing heard that she used racist/discriminatory language on a text message to her partner in April 2021. She went on to use racist/discriminatory language on a WhatsApp message with a contact in February 2022. Speaking after the hearing, Deputy Chief Constable Emma Barnett said: "Racist views have never and should never be acceptable in policing. Through the messages she sent, Clare Davenport showed clearly that she held those views, and there is no place for her in policing." J amie Arnold Jamie Arnold was convicted of making racist gestures towards the former England defender (Image: WMP) This Wolverhampton Wanderers football fan hurled racist abuse and made monkey gestures at Rio Ferdinand. Jamie Arnold was given a six-month prison sentence for subjecting the former England defender to a volley of insults as he worked as a pundit for BT Sport during the Wolves and Manchester United clash on May 23, 2021. He was found guilty of racially aggravated public order following a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court and sentenced in December last year. Arnold, from Stone in Staffordshire , was also banned from watching live matches for seven years. Following the conviction, West Midlands Police thanked Ferdinand and supporters for assisting the investigation and providing statements. Darren Fletcher Darren Fletcher (Image: WMP) Once jailed for being a member of a neo-Nazi group, Darren Fletcher found himself back behind bars when he breached a criminal anti-social behaviour order. The 33-year-old was arrested in June last year after he posted racist, anti-Semitic and offensive comments online . Fletcher, of Kitchen Lane, Wednesfield, pleaded guilty to eight breaches of the order in July and was remanded in custody. He was jailed for four years at Wolverhampton Crown Court in November. Fletcher previously served a five year sentence for being a member of the banned extreme right wing neo-Nazi group National Action in 2018. Timothy Hyslop Timothy Hyslop (Image: WMP) This football hooligan hurled a racist insult at Raheem Sterling as Chelsea played Aston Villa . Timothy Hyslop was banned from matches as a result of the abuse he shouted at the England footballer during the first half of the game at Villa Park in October 2022. Hyslop, from Burton, admitted a racially aggravated section 5 public order offence and was handed a three-year football banning order at Birmingham Magistrates' Court in January last year. He was also ordered to pay fines and court costs totalling £538. John Tatlock This man avoided prison after racially abusing a member of the public outside a pub. John Tatlock had been drinking with Friends at a pub in Wellington, Telford, when a row broke out and spilled into the street. The abuse was heard by a passing patrol officer in January 2022 and the 52-year-old was arrested and charged. Tatlock, of Second Avenue in Ketley Bank, Telford, pleaded guilty to one charge of racially aggravate public order at Stoke-On-Trent Crown Court on January 24 this year and was given a six month suspended sentence for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay the victim £200 compensation. Diago Biddle A thug's "abhorrent" behaviour saw him slapped with a £365 court bill. Diago Biddle, 18, verbally attacked a refugee in a park. He pleaded guilty at Hereford Magistrates’ Court to r acially or religiously aggravated intentional harassment, alarm, or distress . Biddle, of Foster Crescent in Leominster, Herefordshire, was ordered to pay hundreds of pounds in court costs and a victim surcharge following the hate crime. Following his sentencing hearing earlier this year, PC Stobbart of West Mercia Police said: “Biddle’s behaviour was abhorrent and completely unacceptable. I would like to commend the victim in coming forward and reporting this racist verbal attack."
