Finalists in the Humber Renewables Awards 2024 are today revealed. Judges have assessed nominations, forming the shortlist of businesses, organisations and individuals vying for the honours. They will be presented at the gala dinner event, once again the finale to the Offshore Wind Connections conference and exhibition, in Hull, on May 2. Humber Renewables Awards, now in their 12th year, celebrate achievements in a sector that has transformed the region’s
economy, reigniting a maritime passion for many while underlining the long-standing critical energy role the region holds, and the transition required. On the judging panel this year was Iain Butterworth, chair of Humber Marine & Renewables; Camilla Carlbom Flinn, director of
Pentagon Marine; Sheena McGuinness, head of renewables and cleantech at financial consultancy giant RSM
UK and David Laister, PR and media director at marketing consultancy Fred. Mr Butterworth, in his first year at the helm of HMR, organiser of Offshore Wind Connections, said: “It was a pleasure to be involved having thoroughly enjoyed the event as an onlooker in previous years. It was incredibly difficult to reach decisions in some categories, there were big debates with strong opinions put forward over who should get the awards.” Mrs Carlbom Flinn, a fellow HMR director, who recently oversaw the acquisition of her fourth generation Carlbom Shipping business by the London-based entity she is now part of, has been part of the panel for several years. She said: “It is always very encouraging to read through all the entries that showcase what an incredible selection of companies we have supporting the renewables industry in the Humber. It really is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the region.”
comedy magician Ben Hanlin returns to host the awards, held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Hull a few hours after the conference closes. He has many television appearances to his name, including The
Tonight Show with
Jimmy Fallon, Celebrity Juice and Dancing on Ice – where he was a contestant. He first appeared on our screens as the star of his own ITV2 show, Tricked, which saw him pulling magic pranks on celebrities and members of the public. He has attracted a huge
Social Media following, but his big passion is performing live. As well as wowing gala dinner guests with his repertoire, he will compere the evening, which culminates in the presentation of the accolades, with the final Humber Renewables Champion award, specially selected by judges, and revealed on the night. Partners include Aura/ University of Hull, Blackrow Wind, Boston Energy, Business Live, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Humber Marine and Renewables, John Roe, Orsted and RWE.
