NBC host Kristen Welker is in hot water after a report in which she told viewers that Donald Trump's attacks against the daughter of a judge in the former president's criminal case are a "reminder" that this is a "deeply divided nation." This isn't the first time Welker has been criticized for similar news framings. Less than a month ago, Welker was called out by numerous people, including former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann, for her coverage of Donald Trump's 2020
election subversion efforts. Journalist Aaron Rupar flagged the clip from Sunday, saying, "Kristen Welker describes Trump's attacks on a judge's family and other unhinged rhetoric as 'a reminder that we are covering this election against the backdrop of a deeply divided nation.'" "At this point, framing this in a 'politics as normal' framework is profoundly irresponsible," she wrote on Sunday. Jim Manley, a 21-year veteran of the U.S.
Senate including serving 12 years with Senator Kennedy, also chimed in on the drama. "NBC has got some real problems on their hands," he wrote on his
Social Media profile.
Singer Bill Madden stressed the importance of the media's current Trump conundrum. "The fourth estate is having its 1930s
Germany moment: At a time in our history when America is under attack from a deranged lunatic, Kristen Welker continues to pander in bothsidesism," he said Sunday. "It is the failure of the free press that'll be the death of democracy." Biden delegate Victor Shi appeared to be stunned by the move. " WTF. A week after Meet the Press platformed Ronna McDaniel, Kristen Welker just said
Donald Trump attacking Judge Merchan’s daughter is 'a reminder we are covering this election against the backdrop of a deeply divided nation,'" he wrote Sunday. "More both-sidesism. They keep failing our democracy." Watch the video below or click here. Donald Trump is distinguishing himself from his opponents once again. In this case, it's his Easter messages that stand out to those on social media. Trump made dozens of posts on Easter Sunday, including several that strike out at his enemies and others that compare himself to Jesus. In one instance, the former president directed a "happy Easter" post to those he despises, including the judges and prosecutors involved in his cases. This is in sharp contrast to the current president, Joe Bide, and people online were eager to point that out. ALSO READ: 11 ways Trump doesn't become president
White House Deputy Press Secretary and Senior Communications Adviser Andrew Bates compared the two men and their messages. "Biden, marking Easter in the normal, traditional fashion: 'To all those gathering in churches and homes around the world today: Happy Easter. May God bless and keep you,'" he wrote. He added a report from
NBC about Trump's Easter statement. Trump, on the other hand, has "posted this Easter a piece of commentary from the right-wing outlet Gateway Pundit claiming he is 'The Chosen One.' 'What’s happening is supernatural…Trump is ‘the Chosen One.’… What we are all witnessing is ‘The Trump Miracle,'" Bates shared Sunday. Sahil Kapur, senior national political reporter for NBC, similarly compared the two Easter responses. "Easter messages from the two major presidential candidate," he wrote on top of screenshots of the political leaders' respective responses. Conservative Trump critic Tim Miller had this to say: "Can see why Trump supporters are so offended by Biden’s statement about being nice to trans people this Easter. They are looking for something more reverant, respectful, and Christ-like such as this," he wrote. Joe Biden shot in the head and hog-tied in the back of a pick-up truck. Griffin, an award-winning
Actress and comedian who received harsh criticism after her own violent imagery involving Trump went viral during his presidency, has been a topic of discussion since Trump shared the image, which has been referred to by some as a call for political violence against the president. Trump critics have pointed out that, unlike Griffin, Trump is under criminal indictment and running for president. But now, Griffin herself has weighed in. "I would like Donald Trump to be put through what I was put through by him," she said on Threads. "He would crumble." She then continued. "Absolutely crumble. I, on the other hand, am in the middle of a FORTY city tour and will be playing Carnegie Hall in the fall." Griffin noted that she was "extremely grateful" to be "finally coming out the other end of all that b-------." "Because that's what it was. It was b-------." CONTINUE READING Show less Former
New York Assistant Attorney General Adam Pollock said U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon was "stacking the deck" in favor of Donald Trump. On Sunday, Pollock told MSNBC's Alex Witt that special counsel Jack Smith would comply Monday after the judge requested jury instructions in a way experts say misstates the law and the case. "He has to comply with the order," Pollock explained. "He'll get an order back from the court about these jury instructions... Then he'll have an appealable order." The former prosecutor noted that Smith may appeal before a trial date is set for the case. "This is completely putting the cart before the horse," he said. "The judge is signaling, as she has signaled from the get-go, that she doesn't believe in this case, that she doesn't believe the case is warranted, and she's stacking the deck in favor of the defendant." ALSO READ: 11 ways Trump doesn't become president "So, is there anything that Jack Smith can do to get this case moving along?" Witt wondered. "He has successfully appealed prior orders from this judge to the appellate court, and the appellate court has, on multiple occasions, reversed this judge," Pollock replied. "I would expect that if there is an order on these jury instructions, as she's already signaling she is likely to order, that he'll go right back to the appellate court." Cannon, appointed by Trump, has faced reversal by an appeals court after initially ruling in Trump's favor regarding handling classified documents. Cannon, a member of the Federalist Society, was confirmed to the federal bench in November 2020 with limited experience as a lawyer. Her decision came into the spotlight after federal agents searched Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in
Florida, uncovering classified documents. Cannon agreed with Trump's lawyers to halt the FBI's review of these records until an independent third party could examine them. This move was met with criticism, including from
William Barr, Trump's former attorney general. The appeals court later overturned Cannon's decision, stating she had no authority to appoint a special master to review the documents. This ruling came as Trump faced charges for illegally retaining classified documents and obstructing justice.
