'Two French fries short of a Happy Meal': MTG ridiculed on The View for latest theory
Apr 08, 2024
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) proclaimed last week that an earthquake in the northeastern United States Friday, followed by today's solar eclipse, was a "sign from God." It sent "The View" co-hosts into peals of laughter and mockery. The panelists were quick with jokes recalling Donald Trump embracing the 2017 eclipse by staring directly at the sun without protective glasses while his staff yelled for him not to look directly because it could permanently damage eyes. "Maybe that's what's wrong with him," quipped Sunny Hostin. ALSO READ: A criminologist explains why keeping Trump from the White House is all that matters "Maybe that explains things," agreed Alyssa Farah Griffin, who served as Trump's communications director. "With the earthquake on Friday and the eclipse today, people are having all sorts of conspiracies about the end of the world. And then I read online that the epicenter was actually at Bedminster, New Jersey. Fun fact. So it originated with Trump." Another thing Hostin said is that there's a new cycle of cicadas coming this summer. Each generation of cicadas surfaces either every 13 years or every 17 years. There are those who believe that the Rapture is coming due to the confluence of events. Trump even used the eclipse to promote himself, showing his profile plunging the Earth into darkness in an ad. Whoopi Goldberg explained that all of these events happen all the time and it isn't an indication of anything ending the world. While the solar eclipse is making its way across the U.S. in 2024, it happens annually in various parts of the world. For example, there was a total solar eclipse in Antarctica on Dec. 4, 2021. That same day, the Semeru volcano erupted. All the while, the COVID-19 pandemic continued to plague the world. The Oxford High School shooter's parents were also arrested that day. Still, the confluence of events prompted Greene to tell the world that they must repent because all of the events happening at the same time meant God was displeased with the world. "I hope she listens," shaded Hostin after reading MTG's tweet. "She needs to listen, anyway.""She better listen," agreed Joy Behar. "That woman is two french fries short of a Happy Meal."The frequently used euphemism for stupidity or mental unfitness is similar to saying "a can short of a six-pack," "a quart low," "the elevator doesn't go all the way to the top," "the meatballs are sliding off the spaghetti," and "a few fruitloops short a bowl."See the comments from the co-hosts in the video below or at the link here.

Marjorie Taylor Greene praises Russia for fighting Mike Johnson's 'war on Christianity'
Apr 08, 2024
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) praised Russia while suggesting Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) was responsible for a "war on Christianity" in Ukraine. During an appearance on Steve Bannon's War Room podcast on Monday, Greene was asked about Johnson's plans to provide supplemental funding to Ukraine. "There's actually going to be a component when he finally releases this bill. What I'm hearing will be about taking the frozen assets of the Russian people, stealing them, seizing them, converting them into dollars and get them to the Ukrainians," Bannon said of Johnson's plans. Greene said she had planned to meet with Johnson on Friday but backed out at the last minute. "Well, I texted him on Friday, and I told him I would not be speaking to him on Friday and that I had to talk to my district and my constituents first at the town hall tonight," she explained. "He's talking about, you know, confiscating assets from the Russian people just like you said. Well, that's pretty much illegal. They're having a lot of problems with that, and Europe does not want to do it. And that's where most of those assets are." ALSO READ: MAGA congressional candidate: Michelle Obama might be a man, bring back Aunt Jemima "But let's talk about what this really is, Steve, this is a war on Christianity," she continued. "The Ukrainian government is attacking Christians. The Ukrainian government is executing priests. Russia is not doing that." Greene then praised Russia because "they're not attacking Christianity — as a matter of fact, they seem to be protecting it." "I'm not praising Vladimir Putin," she later clarified, without giving any more context to her claims. Watch the video below from Real America's Voice.

Study reveals up to 11 million tons of plastic polluting ocean floors
Apr 08, 2024
The amount of plastic waste littering the Earth's ocean floors could be up to 100 times the quantity floating on the surface, according to a study published this week.Researchers at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO)—an Australian government agency—and the University of Toronto in Canada found that up to 11 million tons of plastic are polluting the planet's ocean floors, including microplastics and larger objects like fishing nets, cups, and bags."We know that millions of tons of plastic waste enter our oceans every year but what we didn't know is how much of this pollution ends up on our ocean floor," CSIRO senior research scientist and study co-author Denise Hardesty said in a statement. "We discovered that the ocean floor has become a resting place, or reservoir, for most plastic pollution, with between 3 to 11 million tons of plastic estimated to be sinking to the ocean floor."Study leader Alice Zhu, a doctoral candidate at the University of Toronto, said that "the ocean surface is a temporary resting place of plastic so it is expected that if we can stop plastic entering our oceans, the amount would be reduced.""However, our research found that plastic will continue to end up in the deep ocean," Zhu stated. "These findings help to fill a longstanding knowledge gap on the behavior of plastic in the marine environment."“Understanding the driving forces behind the transport and accumulation of plastic in the deep ocean will help to inform source reduction and environmental remediation efforts, thereby reducing the risks that plastic pollution may pose to marine life," she added. The study is part of CSIRO's Ending Plastic Waste program, whose goal is "an 80% reduction in plastic waste entering the Australian environment by 2030."Humans produce approximately 440 million tons of plastics annually, or roughly the combined weight of every person on the planet. Plastic pollution harms not only the environment and ecosystems, but also human health and economies.Plastic use is expected to double by 2040. Negotiations on a global plastics treaty have made little progress amid lobbying by the fossil fuel and petrochemical industries.

'They had a duty': Experts erupt over Trump lawyers' potential 'deception' on fraud bond
Apr 07, 2024
Donald Trump's lawyers may have made misrepresentations to the court regarding the former president's bond in his civil fraud case, and legal experts are looking out for what comes next.ProPublica reported on Friday that Trump's attorneys "had told the appellate court it was a 'practical impossibility' to get a bond for the full amount of the lower court’s judgment, $464 million.""But before the judges ruled, the impossible became possible: A billionaire lender approached Trump about providing a bond for the full amount," according to the recent report. "The lawyers never filed paperwork alerting the appeals court. That failure may have violated ethics rules, legal experts say."ALSO READ: A criminologist explains why keeping Trump from the White House is all that mattersThat news made its way around the internet over the weekend, with various people chiming in.ProPublica Illinois deputy editor Steve Mills asked the question, "Did Trump and his lawyers fail to disclose key details about his bond?"That led former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann to post a related reminder."And the $175 bond has reported issues: the surety company may not be licensed to give bonds in NY & may not have met the NY solvency reqs (can't post more than 10% of its worth so it is solvent to meet the bond requirements). 4/22 hearing scheduled by the court."Former prosecutor Barbara McQuade also chimed in:"AG is doing her job on behalf of the people of New York to inquire into whether Trump’s appeal bond meets legal standards," she wrote on Sunday in response to Weissmann. "The risk is that if Trump loses his appeal and he can’t pay the $454M judgment, then taxpayers lose."In response to ProPublica's piece, Trump campaign aide A.J. Delgado said, "Looking more and more like Trump did not, in fact, post the bond (at least not a proper one)."Speaking to MSNBC on Sunday, former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti also said the lawyers involved have a "duty" to correct their statement. He noted that attorneys have additional obligations to be honest to the court. In the comments on the post from Mills, ProPublica's readers weighed in on the subject."Of course they 'neglected' to do this," Barbara Levitan, @BarbaraLevitan, wrote. "There are no accidents with Trump, only deliberate deception."Mary Miller, @eaglzfan1967, said, "THEY LIED - THEY HAD A DUTY TO CURE THEIR FALSE STATEMENTS."

'I must disagree': Trump's own fans reject his latest GOP endorsement on Truth Social
Apr 08, 2024
Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Sunday to endorse a Republican lawmaker, but the former president's own fans rejected the suggestion.Trump frequently makes endorsements on his social media platform that recently went public. On Sunday, he endorsed Tony Wied, Brad Finstad, Pete Stauber, and Tom Emmer in the hopes that they will succeed in their races. For the most part, Trump's supporters lapped up the new endorsements. But there was one exception.ALSO READ: 11 ways Trump doesn’t become presidentTrump promoted Tom Emmer as "a fantastic Representative of Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District," saying he "is doing an incredible job as the Majority Whip of the U.S. House of Representatives.""Tom has worked with us really well over the past 6 months, because he understands we can win Minnesota for the first time since 1972 - although I think we did really well last time!" Trump shouted on Sunday. "Tom is fighting hard to Secure our Borders, Stop Illegal Immigration, Grow the Economy, Cut Taxes, and Protect and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment. Tom Emmer has my Complete and Total Endorsement!"But Trump opposed Emmer in the race for speaker, ultimately endorsing Mike Johnson's bid instead. And the former president's fans aren't so quick to forget."Nope, Emmer is a RINO, works with McCarthy," one Truth Social user wrote. "Emmer needs to be primaried by MAGA."Another user added, "Emmer sucks. He's UniParty."Another self-identified Trump supporter with the name "Gratefulone" also stood against his leader."I must disagree on this pick," they said.A person with Trump in their user ID, @Godgunsandtrump, said, "Tom is a RINO."Another Truth Social user blamed Trump's handlers."Who ever is advising President Trump needs to have his or her head examined to see if that individual is capable of doing a basic internet search on voting records," they wrote. "EMMER IS A RINO!""Is he really the best choice?" another user asked Sunday."Someone needs to primary him," wrote a user by the name of "MAGA Bean," @JerseyGIrlfor45.

Trump Media CEO Devin Nunes to get $600K 'retention bonus' after company lost $58 million
Apr 07, 2024
Trump Media & Technology Group may have lost $4 billion in value since the stock plummeted on reports the company makes no money, but that hasn't kept the company's executives from raking in big salaries, bonuses and stock options as investors and analysts question the long-term viability of the parent company of Truth Social.Stock in the now-public technology company launched on Monday at $79.38 before going into a freefall all week and ending Friday at $40.49.A substantial reason for the collapse was attributed to an auditor's report that the company lost $58 million last year while only generating $4 million in revenue.ALSO READ: 11 ways Trump doesn’t become presidentAccording to a deep dive into executive compensation at the company, the Washington Post is reporting that CEO and president Devin Nunes, who left Congress to take a position with the fledgling company, is doing well despite the company's struggles.According to the report, Nunes made $750,000 in base salary last year which was bumped to a solid d $1 million this year. Along with a grant of 115,000 shares of stock in the company worth approximately $4.6 million, Nunes is also in line for a hefty bonus for sticking around after the massive 2023 losses. The Post is reporting, "Nunes, a former Republican congressman from California, also will receive a $600,000 lump-sum 'retention bonus' this month. A bonus agreement signed by Nunes said the money was designed to help “ensure the continuity” of Trump Media’s business."Nunes is not alone in benefiting mightily, with the report noting, "Dan Scavino Jr., a longtime Trump aide who led his White House’s social media operation and is now advising Trump’s presidential campaign, was paid $240,000 last year through a consulting agreement with his company, Hudson Digital. Scavino will also receive a $600,000 retention bonus this month. Trump Media also issued a $2.2 million 'executive promissory note' to Scavino. The company gave similar promissory notes to other executives, which automatically converted on the day of the merger into stock. The filings do not specify whether Scavino’s note was converted."You can read more about the salaries and bonuses paid to the Trump execs here.

'He can still talk about the case': Fox News host corrects Trump gag order lies
Apr 07, 2024
Fox News host Howard Kurtz reminded Trump campaign press secretary Karoline Leavitt that her boss could still talk about his hush-money case even though a judge put a limited gag order in place. While speaking to Leavitt on Sunday, Kurtz noted that former President Donald Trump had said he was willing to go to jail after Judge Juan Merchan prevented him from talking about court staff or the judge's family. "If this partisan hack wants me to put, wants to put me in the clink for speaking the open, obvious truth, I will gladly become a modern-day Nelson Mandela," Trump wrote about the gag order, Kurtz reported. "So why is he comparing himself to Mandela?" the Fox News host asked. "And is he now worried about going to jail in this case?" "No, not at all," Leavitt insisted. "Truth will ultimately prevail in this case and in all of the cases. The Democrats want President Trump confined to a courtroom." "Unfortunately, he'll have to be on trial in a dark, dirty New York City courtroom because Alvin Bragg is a far-left district attorney who has spent more time persecuting President Trump than prosecuting real violent criminals on the streets of New York," she continued. "President Trump is exposing the truth in all of these Biden-led witch hunts." ALSO READ: Inside the neo-Nazi hate network grooming children for a race war Leavitt attributed the gag orders to Democrats who want to "silence" Trump. "And that's exactly why you see these gag orders coming down," she opined. "Not only are they prosecuting him, but they want to silence him." "It's a complete violation of his First Amendment rights." Kurtz ended the interview with a correction. "He can still talk about the case," the Fox News host said. "But I'm glad to have your response on that." Watch the video below from Fox News or at the link
