Manchester United are heading into the final run of fixtures worrying about a familiar concern this season - injuries. As much as performances have not been great this season, Erik ten Hag shall argue that his team has been ravaged by injuries and he was unable to improve the squad in January. One key area where a lack of options particularly ruined United this campaign was up top. For the majority of the season, Ten Hag has had to rely upon Rasmus Hojlund as his only capable centre-forward. Anthony Martial has been available from time to time but the ship has long since sailed on him being a reliable choice. It is hard to remember a time when a player has ever been more open about leaving a club. The Bees' loyal fanbase will be disappointed that a player who was banned for a considerable length of time and whom they stuck by, has claimed he wants to leave in the summer for a bigger club. However, his ambition is unsurprising. A footballer's career is only short and at 28, Toney does not have much time left where he can command a move to a club challenging at the top of the league. His recent performance during England's victory over
Belgium showed United why he should be considered an option this summer. His hold-up play and pace in behind were a constant threat and exactly what Ten Hag is crying out for as an alternative to Hojlund. United may have to hope Brentford are relegated if they wish to sign him. Toney's £100m price tag will only be lowered if the Bees drop. If they survive in the top flight, Toney may have to push Brentford into a position where they have to accept a lower offer. Either way, Saturday's match will provide United with a reminder of what they desperately need to do this summer.
