Friends with the Princess of Wales told her: “You will be brave because I was and you will fight it like I did.” Mila Sneddon went viral during lockdown thanks to a picture of her kissing her dad, Scott, through a window after he’d moved out to work while she had chemotherapy. The image from March 2020 was seen by Kate who ended up meeting and staying in touch with the schoolgirl from Stenhousemuir, near Falkirk. After hearing about the Princess’ shock cancer diagnosis , Mila, now eight, told the Sunday Mail: “She will be brave because I was and she will fight it like I did. I hope she feels better soon.” Kate chose the image of the little girl called Shielding Mila, to be included in her book Hold Still: A Portrait Of Our Nation which charted 100 images from the pandemic. Kate’s announcement on Friday that she had cancer – discovered after abdominal surgery – came on the second anniversary of Mila being officially free of the disease. She said: “The statement came out on Mila’s two year anniversary in remission. “We were shopping when we heard the news. Mila turned to me and told me she wanted to make and send Kate a card. So Mila will make contact in her own private way. “Kate showed Mila such compassion, care and support both during and post treatment. So it’s been very emotional to see she is now facing her own health struggles.” Mila and her mum Lynda. (Image: DAILY RECORD) Mila was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in November 2019, aged four. During the pandemic her parents decided the best way to keep her safe was by not taking risks and self-isolating in different houses. Primary four pupil Mila, went into remission in March 2022 and endured more than 900 procedures over two and a half years. During a Zoom call ahead of their first get-together, she asked the Princess if she would wear a pink dress when they were able to meet. And Kate kept her word and appeared in fuschia at Edinburgh’s Holyroodhouse in May 2021. Actor quits The Princess, who asked a butler to serve Mila a bowl of cereal when she said she was hungry, then invited her to read aloud a prayer at her Together At Christmas Concert in Westminster Abbey in December that year. Scotland awards. Lynda, who is also mum to Jodi, 20, said: “Cancer is like a community and a club that no-one wants to be in. We wish her a peaceful and speedy recovery.” The Princess was admitted to hospital in January for surgery, which was successful, but post-operative tests confirmed cancer had been present. She started a course of chemotherapy last month. Confirming her diagnosis to the world, Kate said it had been “an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family”.
