Kristen Stewart continued to go to bat for her incredibly cool and sexy (if we may say so ourselves) Rolling Stone cover , delivering a tasteful “Fuck you” to all those offended by it on The
Late Show With
Stephen Colbert . Before discussing the cover, Colbert noted that reps for his own network, CBS, asked him not to show the photo. It was a request he obviously ignored, before quipping, “You look better in a jock strap than I ever did.” He then asked Stewart why she thought the cover “upset” so many people and raised hysterical far-right concerns about “gender ideology” or whatever. Stewart said she would try her best to keep her answer “light” before saying: “I think it’s a little ironic because I feel like I’ve seen a lot of male pubic hair on the cover of things. I’ve seen a lot of hands in pants… I think there’s a certain overt acknowledgment of female sexuality that has its own volition in a way that’s annoying for people who are sexist and homophobic.” Stewart went on to argue the cover is “not remotely explicit,” suggesting instead it offers a depiction of female sexuality far different than what’s usually seen in the mainstream. “Female sexuality isn’t supposed to want anything except to be had,” she said. “And that feels like it’s protruding in a way that might be annoying. But, fuck you.” After a round of applause, Colbert was set to move on to the next question, but not before Stewart made sure she got back in there and stuck the landing to her joke: “But I never will!”
