Kenny Young, who has died aged 79, was a gifted songwriter, musician and producer best known for co-writing the Grammy Hall of Fame song Under the Boardwalk, first a 1964 hit for the Drifters and later popularised by the Rolling Stones.
Born Shalom Giskan in Mea-Shearim, Jerusalem, he was the younger son of Molly and David Giskan. He was only six years old when, at the end of the second world war, the family travelled to
New York, where they settled on the Lower East Side, Manhattan. Molly became a committed volunteer for various Jewish womens’ charities and David worked for the Manischewitz food company.
