A fifth person in the
UK has died after testing positive for coronavirus, NHS
England has said.
The patient died at St Helier Hospital in Carshalton, south
London, was in their 70s, and had a “number of significant and long-term health conditions”.
A third person in the UK has died after contracting coronavirus, health officials confirmed on Sunday evening.
The man, in his 60s, had underlying health problems and died at North Manchester General Hospital having recently returned from Italy.
On Monday, the fourth person died after being treated in Wolverhampton and also having underlying health conditions.
The UK’s first recorded death linked to coronavirus was reportedly that of a woman in her 70s, who died at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.
Daniel Elkeles, chief executive for Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “We can confirm that sadly, a patient in their seventies who was very unwell with a number of significant and long-term health conditions has passed away at St Helier Hospital. They had tested positive for Covid-19.
“Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patient’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
