Billie Eilish has landed her first ever UK number one single, thanks to her new James Bond theme No Time To Die.
Billie Eilish Bags Her First UK Number One With New James Bond Theme Song
The 18-year-old got the thumbs up from fans when she unveiled the track last week, making her the youngest artist to ever record the theme song for a Bond film.
It’s now been revealed that the song has gone straight in at the top of the UK singles chart, the first of Billie’s songs to do so.
What’s more, with 90,000 chart sales – including 10.6 million streams in a week – No Time To Die appears to have had the biggest opening week for any Bond theme, according to Official Charts Company, as well as having the biggest first-week sales for any other single in 2020.Although this is Billie’s first time topping the UK singles chart, she previously came close with her past songs Bad Guy and Everything I Wanted, which peaked at number two and three, respectively.
She previously said of No Time To Die: “It feels crazy to be a part of this in every way. To be able to score the theme song to a film that is part of such a legendary series is a huge honour.
“James Bond is the coolest film franchise ever to exist. I’m still in shock.”
Earlier this week, Billie performed the song live for the first time on the Brit Awards stage, where she was accompanied by composer extraordinaire Hans Zimmer, guitar legend Johnny Marr and her brother Finneas, with whom she co-wrote the track. No Time To Die is only the second Bond theme in history to reach number one, the first being Sam Smith’s Writing’s On The Wall back in 2015.
Sam went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the Oscars the following year, a feat previously achieved by their Bond song predecessor Adele, who recorded the title track for the film Skyfall.
Skyfall reached number two in 2012, but was kept off the top spot by Swedish House Mafia and John Martin’s Don’t You Worry Child.
No Time To Die marks Daniel Craig’s final outing as James Bond, and will arrive in UK cinemas on 2 April.READ MORE: From Stormzy To Lizzo, Here's Our Definitive Ranking Of This Year's Brit Awards Performances Billie Eilish Blasts 'Stupid-Ass' Internet After Criticisms Over Her Friendship With Drake Billie Eilish Blasts German Magazine For Turning Her Into A 'Shirtless' Robot Without Her Consent
