FKA Twigs has spoken out after her performance at this year’s
Grammys sparked a mixed reaction online.
Ahead of Sunday night’s ceremony, it had been confirmed that Twigs would join Usher and Sheila E live on stage for a tribute performance in memory of Prince.
However, many fans were disappointed that the
British star did not actually sing during the performance, instead dancing along, including an elaborate pole routine, while Usher performed hits like When Doves Cry and Kiss.
After multiple news outlets suggested the performance had “relegated” the former Mercury Prize nominee to just being a “backing dancer” for Usher, Twigs spoke out on Twitter.In her tweet, the star admitted that while she “wanted to sing at the Grammys”, she “wasn’t asked” by producers to contribute vocals to the Prince tribute performance.
“Of course I wanted to sing at the Grammys. I wasn’t asked this time but hopefully in the future,” she wrote. “[Nonetheless] what an honour. music video, in which she shows off her pole-dancing abilities. However, the Best Music Video award ended up going to Lil Nas X, for his Old Town Road clip.
Last year, her second album Magdalene was met with huge critical acclaim, and earned her a nomination in the Best British Female category at the upcoming Brit Awards.
