Britain’s Got Talent fans were left unimpressed on Saturday night, after dance duo Twist And Pulse were crowned the winners of The Champions series.
Viewers were not allowed to vote in the final of the special edition of the ITV talent show, as it was pre-recorded back in July.
Instead, members of the audience at Wembley Arena - dubbed the Superfans - had to vote for their favourite out of the 10 acts who’d made it through to the finale. Twist And Pulse - real names Ashley Glazebrook and Glen Murphy - saw off popular competition from the likes of Stavros Flatley and Ukrainian sand artist Kseniya Simonova, who finished in second and third place respectively.
However, many were left unhappy at the result, complaining how the public should have been allowed to crown the ultimate BGT champion. Who tf are these 'superfans'? They clearly arent superfans when they get it so wrong every time, should have been a public vote, they ruined the show #BGTTheChampions#BGT— Nameless (@8um8njdHg4SSaqc) October 5, 2019Maybe next time ITV put BGT Champions on LIVE and let the public vote instead of the superfans. Fucking hell can't tell you how disappointed I am. I really enjoyed Strictly but I am REALLY disappointed with BGT Champions. #BGTChampions— William (VOTE FOR LYSETTE!!) (@WilliamBB3Fan) October 6, 2019Enjoyed @BGT the champions and @TwistandPulse were good but it should have been a public vote and not just a handful of “super fans”. Not a fair way of deciding the winner in my opinion. #BGT#BGTChampions— Linda Stocker (@MrsBarryManilow) October 6, 2019#kseniyasimonova@SimonovaTV should have won @BGT#BGTTheChampions What she did was nothing short of amazing and clearly better than any other act on that stage tonight! Wrong act won!— Vince Rennie (@VinceRennie) October 5, 2019So rigged, let the public vote not those super fans. That sand lady and the dog girl got robbed big time.— Shaun (@Shaun56362739) October 5, 2019I think the BGT The champions should of been live so that EVERYONE could vote Not just the so-called 'super fans' who only voted on what THEY liked and not what they thought the NATION would like. TOTAL FIX !— TheLivingToblerone (@AliveToblerone) October 6, 2019Catching up on #BGTChampions as tiredness got the better of me last night. But please @BGT make the Champions Final live on tele next year and let the public vote!— Zobear 🐻 (@Zobear) October 6, 2019You can’t call it Britain’s got talent champions when most of
Britain wasn’t able to vote— Amanda Jane Masters (@amasters38) October 5, 2019I liked them but think the wrong act won with all the talent on stage tonight.... @BGT_Champions Great show though😊— Patricia Kinsella (@Trishaa0) October 5, 2019Awful result... that’s what happens when teenagers vote.... no way were stavros & twist & pulse better than the sand lady or the dogs...— sal lepage (@sallepage) October 6, 2019Alexa with the dogs should have won or at least been runner up. She had my vote and I’m sure she would have had most of the nations too. ⭐️ #BGTChampions#bgt@BGT@SimonCowell— Samantha (@oceaneyes2019) October 6, 2019The result of the final was also leaked online earlier this year, after it was filmed in the summer, reportedly angering producers who had hoped to keep it secret.
Twist And Pulse originally appeared on the fourth series of Britain’s Got Talent in 2010, where the finished second.
They had reached the Champions final after Alesha Dixon awarded them her Golden Buzzer last week.
After the result of the final was revealed, Ashley said:“Things like this don’t happen to me and my best friend Glen. So I’d like to say thank you.”
US comedian Preacher Lawson, Canadian illusionist Darcey Oake and dancing duo Paddy and Nico also impressed judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams in the final, but did not gain enough votes to reach the top three.
There was also controversy earlier in the series when the show’s first-ever winner, opera singer Paul Potts, failed to make it through to the final. READ MORE...
