Believe it or not, Bill Maher made a pretty controversial argument on a recent episode of his show — and now, The Late Late Show's
James Corden is here to dismantle it.Corden dedicated a segment of his Thursday show to Maher's recent claim that fat-shaming is actually good and "needs to make a comeback." While Corden allowed that the
HBO host is "just trying to help" with "tough love," he flatly rejected this line of thinking."The truth is, you're working against your own cause," Corden told Maher while reminding him that fat-shaming never went anywhere."It's proven that fat-shaming only does one thing: it makes people feel ashamed, and shame leads to depression, anxiety, and self-destructive behavior."Corden, who explained he has been off and on diets his whole life, went on to say that the issue is far more "complex" than Maher seems to think, adding that "fat-shaming is just bullying, and bullying only makes the problem worse." The Late
Late Show host also slammed Maher as a "d-ck" after showing a clip of one of his many fat-shaming jokes and mocked him by saying "we're not all as lucky" to have "a sense of superiority that burns 35,000 calories a day.""While encouraging people to think about what goes into their mouths," Corden concluded in a plea to Maher, "just think a little harder about what comes out of yours."
