John Travolta cemented his position as The World’s Greatest Celebrity on Monday night when he made another epic on-stage blunder.
The
Hollywood star was tasked with handing out the Video Of The Year award to
Taylor Swift at this year’s
MTV VMAs, but things didn’t go quite to plan.
When Taylor was announced as the winner for her You Need To Calm Down clip, she was joined on stage by an array of names from the LGBTQ community, who feature in the video. One of those luminaries included RuPaul’s Drag Race star Jade Jolie.
Drag Race fans will know that Jade was a contestant on the fifth season of the show, and portrayed Taylor in the Snatch Game Challenge.
So this might explain why John attempted to hand over the award to a bemused Jade instead of you know, the biggest pop star on the planet.Yes, we’re getting Adele Dazeem flashbacks too... And so was most of Twitter...John Travolta mistook Jade Jolie for Taylor Swift when handing over the award for ‘Video of the Year.’ 😂 pic.twitter.com/FZq7r8Pr8e— Jenna Haze🤬🤬 (@JennaHa39174558) August 27, 2019John Travolta trying to find Taylor Swift pic.twitter.com/60RxIVkfyC— Bryan Powell (@TheBryanPowell) August 27, 2019I mean, really, John Travolta is the gift that just keeps on giving.— Kat Robichaud (@katrowbeeshow) August 27, 2019let john travolta do something at every award show— Bec Shaw (@Brocklesnitch) August 27, 2019John Travolta presenting Jade Jolie with a #VMA thinking she’s Taylor Swift pic.twitter.com/PWB0DxLDkX— Boston Gay Boy 🏳️🌈 (@BostonGayBoy) August 27, 2019Being John Travolta's biggest fan is honestly EXHAUSTING. #VMAshttps://t.co/niqLfFdsls— Jamie Jirak (@JamieCinematics) August 27, 2019During her acceptance speech, Taylor appeared to take aim at

At the end of the You Need To Calm Down video viewers are encouraged to sign a petition to endorse the Equality Act, a proposed piece of legislation that would enshrine into law protections for the LGBTQ community in the US.
While on stage, Taylor said “several points were made” with the visual piece, adding that the Equality Act had now attracted far more signatures than is required to receive a response from the White House. She then tapped an imaginary watch on her wrist in an apparent dig at the US president’s inaction.
