It’s less than two months since Scooter Braun royally pissed off
Taylor Swift after buying her entire back catalogue, but the
music manager isn’t going to let a major feud get in the way of him praising her latest album (the only one he doesn’t own).
Scooter – who manages pop heavyweights
Ariana Grande and
Justin Bieber – took to
Twitter on Friday morning to congratulate Taylor on the release of Lover, which is released today.“Regardless of what has been said the truth is you don’t make big bets unless you are a believer and always have been,” he tweeted. ”Brilliant album with #Lover. Congrats @taylorswift13. Supporting was always the healthier option #brilliantalbum #brilliantcampaign congrats.”Regardless of what has been said the truth is you don’t make big bets unless you are a believer and always have been. Supporting was always the healthier option 😊 #brilliantalbum#brilliantcampaign congrats— Scooter Braun (@scooterbraun) August 23, 2019Taylor has yet to respond to the tweet, but her legion of loyal fans certainly have – and they are NOT happy.lol "HE REALLY SAID SUPPORTING WAS ALWAYS THE HEALTHIER OPTION as in mocking her/her fans! i guess buying someone elses art work that had absolutely nothing to do with you that they worked fuckn hard for the entire life seeems so healthy! keep her name out of your mouth. thnx— I'm NYC, 𝓛𝑜𝓋𝑒, 𝓜iranda 💘 (@GodsPrincess13_) August 23, 2019today is a celebration of Taylor’s artistry, not your financial “bets” (dressed up theft). keep her name and her album (that you don’t own) out of your mouth! pic.twitter.com/fhzQPlPLm3— Cheriah Beyswift Adelorde (@reputaSTAN) August 23, 2019if u support her then you would've gave her her masters— 💎 (@rapedreputation) August 23, 2019Pls quit trying to make her moments include you. Just bc you've bought your way into her business affairs doesn't mean you need to speak on her album release & you've never tweeted on one before. Your misogyny is showing big time here. For once, give it a rest.— 𝓛𝑜𝓋𝑒, H (@heleenamck) August 23, 2019if you support her then you’d give her masters back r*t— Batuhan (@thatcruelsummer) August 23, 2019If you’re gonna support her, put your money where your mouth is and give her her music back.— Ari (@saltyhistorian) August 23, 2019not at you using taylor’s name for clout and attention again. the obsession. pic.twitter.com/gV37QSDr2Y— emiliano (@partyin1989x) August 23, 2019We hate you— 𝓛𝑜𝓋𝑒, sassas (@messuwanted) August 23, 2019Scooter’s tweet of support comes just a day after Taylor revealed plans to re-record her entire back catalogue, after fellow US singer Kelly Clarkson suggested she did just that last month.
During an interview with a US TV show, the singer was asked if she would consider re-recording her old material so she could own the new versions.
She replied: “Oh, yeah.” Asked if that is what she plans to do, she added: “Yeah, absolutely.”
Scooter and Taylor became involved in a public row after she branded him a bully when it was revealed the master copies of her former tracks had been sold by her former label. The 29-year-old had been signed to Big Machine Records since her music career started as a teen, and the label owned the rights to her first six albums, including 2008’s Fearless and 2014’s 1989.
In June, Scooter Braun company’s Ithaca Holdings announced that it had acquired Big Machine Records in a deal believed to be worth around £237 million, meaning he owned the master recordings of all of Taylor’s previous releases.
Taylor signed with Universal Music Group in November last year, in a deal ensuring she maintained the rights to her work.
On Friday morning, Taylor alluded to the fact she no longer owns her previous work as she promoted the release of Lover on Twitter. This album is very much a celebration of love, in all its complexity, coziness, and chaos. It’s the first album of mine that I’ve ever owned, and I couldn’t be more proud. I’m so excited that #Lover is out NOW: https://t.co/t7jK7XmEqapic.twitter.com/NMgE7LTdGZ— Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) August 23, 2019“This album is very much a celebration of love, in all its complexity, coziness, and chaos.
