At least six
police officers were shot Wednesday afternoon in Philadelphia’s Nicetown-Tioga neighborhood, according to police.The six officers were rushed to Temple University Hospital, and their wounds are not deadly, police said. A seventh officer was also injured in a car accident.One suspect is in custody while another suspect continued to fire while barricaded inside a building as of 6:18pm. Police described the "active and ongoing" situation as a "firefight."The gunman reportedly has an AK-47, which he fired through the ceiling after police officers rushed to the floor above. One officer is still trapped inside the house.>

Updates will be provided as received> > -- Eric Gripp (@PPDEricGripp) August 14, 2019The shooting began around 4:30pm on the 3700 block of North 15th Street where police were originally called over narcotics activity, law enforcement said.Video of the area where the standoff between police and the shooter is ongoing shows a heavy police presence putting north Philadelphia in gridlock.Police are currently pleading with the second gunman to surrender.Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are also responding to assist Philadelphia police, the bureau said.Mayor Jim Kenney and District Attorney Larry Krasner came to the hospital where the officers are receiving medical treatment.Temple University's Health Sciences Center Campus is currently on lockdown as police respond.
