“Uncomfortable”, “shocking” and “disgusting” – that’s how Good Morning Britain viewers described an interview with Curtis Pritchard on Thursday, in which presenters Adil Ray and Kate Garraway tried to “force” him to say he was bisexual.
Good Morning Britain Hosts Accused Of Trying To Force Curtis Pritchard To Come Out As Bisexual In Uncomfortable Interview
The Love Island star appeared on the ITV breakfast show after making headlines earlier in the week when he said he would not rule out the possibility of a relationship with a man in the future. The topic was addressed during his interview on GMB, and while Curtis insisted his sexuality was not something he felt the need to label, hosts Adil and Kate faced criticism with their unrelenting line of questioning.
Kate began: “You dropped the bombshell is that you would consider in the future a relationship with a man...”
Curtis replied: “I think the future’s a road which is unwritten, nobody can ever say what’s going to happen in the future, really. I mean, last year, would I have said I’m on Love Island? No. This year, I was on Love Island. So, I never want to label what the future’s going to be, because I don’t think anyone can ever do that.
“So all I want to say is that I’m 100 per cent comfortable where I am now in my relationship with Maura and it’s moving in the correct direction.”‘I never want to label what the future is going to be because I don’t think anyone can really ever do that.’#LoveIsland's Curtis Pritchard addresses rumours about his sexuality. pic.twitter.com/RsAPJxo6sY— Good Morning Britain (@GMB) August 8, 2019Adil then asked: “Are you saying you’re bisexual?”, to which Curtis reiterated he was “not labelling anything”.
“Why not?” Adil continued.
Curtis explained: “Because I don’t feel like I need to label anything. Because, so many people put labels on things, people say things... and – I’ve learned this from the villa – my head’s not going to be turned – and then in the future... the head gets turned, they change their mind and opinion. Things change. That’s why I’m not labelling anything.”
Continuing to question Curtis, Adil continued: “There is some discussion since your comments people saying for men in particular they find it hard to come out and bisexual, you should just say that, and there might be a concern on your part to say openly as a man in Britain in 2019, ‘I’m bisexual’.”
Curtis again explained he did’t feel labelling himself was “the right thing to do”, adding that he is “comfortable” in his relationship with fellow Love Island star Maura Higgins. Kate then chipped in: “I know what you mean you don’t want to box yourself in, but if you’re open to a relationship with a man, that means that you have considered or thought about it? Does Maura know about this? Is there a concern how it affects her?”
Curtis said they had discussed it and were “happy with what’s going on”, to which Kate then asked: “Why didn’t you talk about it when you were in the villa?”, before bringing up his friendship with Tommy Fury on the show.
While Adil ended the interview by saying he “admired [Curtis’] honesty, calling it “quite refreshing”, viewers called out Kate and Adil for “pressuring” Curtis to commit to calling himself bisexual. Anyone else feel like the presenters are trying to force Curtis to say he is bisexual? 😳😬 leave him alone, this is really uncomfortable #gmb#goodmorningbritain— Stacey (@Stacey_Tee) August 8, 2019I think it's disgusting that @CurtisPritchard is practically being forced to say he's bisexual on @GMB who needs to tell anyone their business! It's up to Curtis and its only Curtis' business!— Nicole Hannah (@Nicole_259) August 8, 2019Good morning Britain completely pushing and forcing it out of Curtis to say the words ‘I’m bisexual’ is pretty disgusting tbh.. he’s haid he’s open to a relationship with a man and that’s clearly as far as he is comfortable saying— Alanya-Jade (@alanyajade) August 8, 2019@GMB pressuring Curtis to come out as bisexual is honestly disgusting. if he doesn’t feel comfortable then leave him alone— stacey (@thereignsera) August 8, 2019This is awful...what has his sexuality got to do with anyone else ??? Appalling interviewing. #gmb— Fi 🍃🌼🍃 (@Fibutton) August 8, 2019Hosts at Good Morning Britain forcing Curtis to come out as bisexual...is this for real? Who cares if Curtis (in the future) wants to have a relationship with a man? Why is he essentially being forced to label his sexuality?! He’s in a relationship with a girl, let him get on with his life. #GoodMorningBritain#GMBpic.twitter.com/Tn7PB8TAKP— Chris Hampton (@WatchWando) August 8, 2019Think it’s wrong that the presenters on GMB keep going on at Curtis about putting a label on his sexuality when he’s said he doesn’t want to do that— Beth (@oh_villanelle) August 8, 2019@GMB stop the torrent of bisexual questions. His business. #curtis— Zoe Spooner (@ZoeSpooner2) August 8, 2019@GMB I think Curtis handled himself well seen as though all you seemed bothered about was sexuality. Who cares ! He’s a nice lad 🙂— naughtyfortydiaries (@naughty_forties) August 8, 2019Honestly, I am tired. This is tiring. It’s uncomfortable. When Curtis says he’s not labelling himself, he instantly gets challenged with ‘why?’.Can someone please put me on GMB so I can explain that we don’t need these labels that were created to put us all into a little box?— Regan Okey (@reganokey) August 8, 2019@adilray ‘Do you think you’re bisexual’ Curtis, ‘It’s none of your fucking business’ #GMB How dare you try and force that from someone @kategarraway— Mikey McKenna (@m8kna) August 8, 2019That was shocking behaviour from @adilray And @kategarraway, interview, more like interrogation.— Kags66 (@Kags661) August 8, 2019Why is @GMB trying to push Curtis into saying he’s bisexual 🤷🏼‍♀️ does he really need to confirm anything atall, leave him alone ffs!— Laura Bleackley (@laura_bleackley) August 8, 2019That conversation with Curtis was awkward and uncomfortable viewing.
