Jessica Chastain has revealed she was keen to make
IT Chapter Two more gorier and bloodier than the first by essentially turning it into ‘Carrie on steroids’.
Jessica plays the grown-up version of Beverly Marsh in the film, which will see the Losers reunite decades after believing they had defeated Pennywise, and admitted that in one scene her character becomes completely drenched in blood but only because she demanded it.
Speaking at San Diego Comic Con, Jessica said: ‘When [director Andy Muschietti] first talked to me about the scene, I thought it was really smart, brilliant, and I was excited by it. ‘But then he said, “the blood is going to come up to your collarbone, it’s not going to get on your face.” ‘I was like, “let’s make Carrie on steroids”.’
The cast and crew of the sequel to 2017’s IT were all at the panel on Wednesday, and Bill Hader, who plays the older version of Richie Tozier, admitted that he is ‘not good at acting scared, because when I’m actually scared, I smile’. ‘There’s a lot of emotion, it really is about childhood trauma, the movie, and all of us coming together. It wasn’t just this awesome scary movie, which it is, but it also has a beautiful story to it.’
The panel also included a sneak peek at the new trailer before it was released online, as well as two new exclusive clips including the moment when the adult versions of the characters meet for the first time at the Chinese restaurant. The scene is very iconic in Stephen King’s book and the clip confirms some major changes have been made. Fans also saw James McAvoy – who plays the adult Bill Denbrough- follow a young kid into a funhouse, where the clown Pennywise (once again portrayed by Bill Skarsgård) can be seen lurking in the background. As Bill attempts to rescue the kid, Pennywise smashes his head against the glass before eventually breaking through, with the clip ending with his teeth reaching out. Jay Ryan, Isaiah Mustafa, James Ransone and Andy Bean all also star in the film. It:Chapter Two is due for release in the UK on Friday 6 September.
