The
Boston Celtics are adding a highly respected
basketball mind to their coaching staff.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday that Kara Lawson will be joining C's head coach Brad Stevens' staff as an assistant coach.
The Celtics lost assistant coach Micah Shrewsberry in May when he left to join the Purdue men's basketball staff.
Lawson, 38, most recently has served as an analyst on ESPN and the Washington Wizards game broadcasts.
She also enjoyed tremendous success as a player for the University of Tennessee, multiple WNBA teams (over 12 seasons) and Team USA. She was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2003 WNBA Draft and played a pivotal role on the Sacramento Monarchs team that won a WNBA title in 2005. Lawson won a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing with USA Basketball.
