THIS is the moment Emily Thornberry mouthed directly at Theresa May during a heated Brexit speech in the House of Commons.
The Prime Minister asked the Labour benches if they were so keen to progress in the Brexit talks why party MEPs voted against doing so.
The shadow foreign secretary could not sit still as she reacted to Mrs May’s question on European Union negotiations.
Speaking in the Commons, the Prime Minister hit out at Jeremy Corbyn's comments that Labour wanted to move on with EU talks.
She said: “If they think it’s so important to move ahead in the negotiations, why did Labour MEPs vote against moving ahead in the negotiations?
“He talked about the Withdrawal Bill as if this was something that Labour were very eager to see before this House.
“If they’re so eager about this bill, why did they vote against it at second reading and in doing so, vote against bringing workers’ rights and environmental standards into UK law.”
Ms Thornberry mouthed in response that it was not just Labour MEPs who voted against the EU starting trade talks with the UK.
She said: “And Tories, and Tories.”
Senior Tory John Redwood has said Angela Merkel is rattled by a surge in support for a no-deal Brexit by UK voters.
The former cabinet minister said the German chancellor and her EU allies had changed their tune and were “very worried” at the popularity of the World Trade Organisation model in Britain.
Writing on his blog, Mr Redwood said: “I am glad the Government is going full ahead with showing how the WTO option can work for the UK, and will do what it takes to make sure we trade and do business after March 2019 if there is no deal.
“That is a sensible contingency plan as well as a good negotiating strategy."
He continued: “It is quite clear from the different tone of remarks coming from Mrs Merkel, the Commission and elsewhere within the EU that they are very worried at just how popular the WTO model is with many UK voters.”
Mr Redwood’s comments came as an Opinium poll for today’s Observer revealed most people would prefer a no-deal Brexit rather than a lengthy transition period or no Brexit at all.
