THE LATEST Google hardware might suffer from the same problem that plagued the iPhone 6 Plus when it launched back in 2014, a new viral video has revealed.
Pixel 2 has been subjected to a strenuous bend test by popular YouTube creator JerryRigEverything.
And the second-generation Google-branded smartphone has not faired well.
The Google Pixel 2 bends when pressure is applied from the back of the phone – quickly cracking the rear case.
According to JerryRigEverything, the split occurs along the antenna band, which he believes has been placed at one of the most structurally weak points of the Pixel 2.
Applying enough stress close to that line will lead to catastrophic damage to the device.
The Pixel 2 is hardly the first smartphone to suffer heavy damage at the hands of the JerryRigEverything disability test.
The iPhone 6 Plus, which first launched back in September 2014, was rendered unusable after the bend test.
iPhone 6 Plus owners also reported discovering their latest smartphone bent at the edges after putting it in their pockets and sitting down.
Apple said less than a dozen of people had complained to them about their phone bending.
The company said the problems could have been caused by the smartphone’s large size and thin frame.
However, Apple strengthened a number of keys points within the case design for the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, which debuted the following year.
It also used a stronger 7000 series aluminium alloy.
The Pixel 2 is unlikely to cause a scandal on the scale of the #BendGate hysteria that rocked the launch of the iPhone 6 Plus.
However, owners might want to take a little extra care with their new Google smartphone – and avoid sitting down with the handset in their back pocket.
That’s not something that applies to those still carrying the original Google Pixel.
During the same durability test, JerryRigEverything said the Pixel “could very well be one of the most durable, well-built phones of 2016.”
