French Open 2019 quarter-finals. The Swiss produced an amazing shot to wow the Suzanne-Lenglen crowd as he stole a point from his rival.
The French Open quarter-finals drew Roger Federer against fellow Swiss Stan Wawrinka.
The match took place on the Suzanne-Lenglen court, with Federer ultimately ending up the winner.
Despite rain stopping play, Federer won the match 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. He'll now face Rafael Nadal in the semi-final.
Wawrinka played a shot across the court, and it was heading for the byline.
But the World Number three headed toward the net, before darting to his left hand side.
He outstretched his right arm, while turning his body 360 degrees, and connected with the ball.
The ball dropped over the net, and Federer subsequently won the crucial point.
There was an audible gasp from the crowd after the ball safely landed in Wawrinka’s half of the court, followed by a subtle smile from Federer.
Going into the match, Federer was the only player left in the tournament that hadn’t dropped a set.
He’s moved through the rounds relatively unchallenged so far, but has faced tough opposition in Wawrinka so far.
The duo have played each other 25 times in competitive fixtures, with Federer winning 22 of them.
Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal was left fuming after rain stopped play in his quarter-final fixture against Nishikori.
The defending champion was leading 6-1, 6-1, 4-2 before play was suspended.
But he protested with officials as he didn’t want to leave the court when he was close to finishing the job.
The decision to leave the court was ultimately the correct one, as the rain started coming down heavily.
