Lord of the Rings actor
John Rhys-Davies engaged in a fiery clash with Green MP
Caroline Lucas on BBC's Question Time on Thursday night.
Speaking on whether
Donald Trump's visit to the
UK, Mr Rhys-Davies put up a staunch defence of the President. The actor admitted that Trump was the "last great hope for mankind" and moreover that he "represents the American people". Questioning Trump's legitimacy, Ms Lucas insisted that Trump did not represent the American people which provoked a fiery response from the actor.
In response, Mr Rhys-Davies said: "Oh Woman have you ever read Kenneth Arrow?
"Arrows theorem states that any system of election has its problems."
The Lord of the Rings actor's response was due to Ms Lucas' claim that Trump did not represent the American people but also that he lost the popular vote in 2016.
After Mr Rhys-Davies fiery response, Ms Lucas interjected agreeing every electoral system has its problems, saying "the UK and America more so than others".
The clash between the two came as the panel debated whether the US President should be allowed a state visit to the UK.
Trump's state visit was announced earlier this week to the uproar of some within the political spectrum.
Last year the US President's trip to the UK was marked with heavy demonstrations.
This year the Queen will host the President and the First Lady Melania Trump from June 3 to June 5.
Speaking on the matter, Liberal Democrat leader Vince cable also shared his opinion, while also admitting he declined a state banquet hosted by the Queen.
Mr Cable said: "The whole idea of a state visit has been utterly debased.
"We've had a run of appalling characters from Ceaușescu and Mobutu which disrespects the Queen."
To mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, Trump will attend a ceremony in Portsmouth and will have official talks with Theresa May at Downing Street.
