A YOUTUBE celebrity says he is “absolutely sickened” to have his name linked to the man allegedly behind one of the worst
Shootings in
New Zealand history.
Felix Kjellberg, who is better known by his online name
PewDiePie, spoke out after claims the attacker told online followers to subscribe to his YouTube channel before shooting worshippers at a mosque in
Christchurch. Mr Kjellberg is originally from Sweden and the most-subscribed user on YouTube. Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “Just heard news of the devastating reports from New Zealand Christchurch.
“I feel absolutely sickened having my name uttered by this person.
“My heart and thoughts go out to the victims, families and everyone affected by this tragedy.”
Reports say at least nine people died in the horrendous attacks in New Zealand, with dozens more injured.
The attacker live-streamed the incident on Facebook, which has since been shared thousands of times on the social media platform and Twitter.
Two mosques were attacked and New Zealand’s Police Commissioner Mike Bush confirmed that bombs had been attached to cars close to the scene of the attacks.
The city’s main hospital was also locked down to protect patients as well as the dozens of victims being treated there.
He said: “This is absolutely tragic and there will be so many people affected."
The country’s Prime Minister also released a statement, stating the day was “one of the darkest days in New Zealand’s history”.
Witnesses have described the shocking scenes outside the Linewood Mosque, where the second attack is said to have happened.
One told stuff.nz: “I didn't know what a gun sounded like. It is customary when we are praying not to pay attention to the outside world...Gunshots kept happening and people kept praying.
"I saw two females and four or five males dead and the rest were severe casualties.
“The whole mosque was filled with blood and dead bodies. It was like a battlefield."
