THERESA May is preparing to silence Boris Johnson in an imminent Cabinet reshuffle that could see the Foreign Secretary lose his high-ranking position in the party.
The Prime Minister is preparing for a party realignment that will result in the “best people” surrounding her in Parliament.
She said: “I didn’t come into politics for an easy life.
“It has never been my style to hide from a challenge and I’m not going to start now.
“I’m the PM, and part of my job is to make sure I always have the best people in my cabinet, to make the most of the wealth of talent available to me in the party.”
The quotes from Mrs May are said to signal an initiative to distance herself from those clamouring for a hard Brexit and secure her leadership by bringing in new talent who are more willing to adopt her approach to EU negotiations.
The chair of the Prime Minister’s policy board, George Freeman, claimed: “The new generation of Conservative MPs are much more dynamic and open to the way that we go about doing politics.”
The imminent Cabinet reorganisation is set to take place after the scheduled European Council meeting that takes place on October 19 and 20.
A senior figure told The Times: “There is not a binary choice between keeping Boris and sacking Boris.”
Since heading the Leave campaign to victory last year, the Foreign Secretary has pushed for aggressive Brexit negotiations with the failed European superstate to ensure Britain secures its sovereignty.
Mr Johnson recently pledged his support to Theresa May after dispatching a message to Tory MP’s calling for party unity.
He said: “We have just had an election and people are fed up with all this malarkey.
“Ordinary punters have spoken to thought her speech was good and anyone can have a cold.
“Circle the wagons turn the fire on Corbyn and talk about nothing except our great policies and what we can do for this country.”
