Mel B revealed she would love to cast
Katy Perry as the new Posh Spice should the
Spice Girls go on tour and Victoria Beckham refuses to take part.
For months, if not now years, there has been continued promises and relentless rumors that the “Wannabe” hitmakers would hit the road to sing to their loyal fans one more time.
And for just as long, speculation has been rife that it is 44-year-old Vicky B that has been holing up proceedings by rejecting a new tour idea.
But now Scary Spice herself has come up with a great plan to make a tour happen — by replacing Victoria completely.
Speaking on “The Late Late Show” with James Corden, 43-year-old Mel confirmed that the Spice Girls will tour again — and plans are afoot to perform even without Vicky.
“100 percent it’s happening,” Mel said as she shared a sofa with “Predator” star Olivia Munn and reality star Dr Phil.
Corden then ran off a roll call for who would be taking part in the fabled Spice Girls reunion tour.
“We’ve got Baby, we’ve got Sporty, we’ve got Scary, we’ve got Ginger,” he listed — followed by a poignant pause.
“Posh?” fellow guest Olivia then asked — prompting Mel to reply: “Well, we’ll see about that one.”
The Leeds-born star then said: “Us four are definitely going to be going on tour. She may join us for a few. She better do.”
Olivia then suggested the Spice Girls could have a list of celebrity guests that could fill in for Victoria — prompting Mel to declare it would be a brilliant idea.
“Katy Perry would be good, wouldn’t she,” she said.
The girl group — who have enjoyed global success thanks to songs including “2 Become 1” and “Spice Up Your Life” — last toured in 2007.
They took in dates in the UK, North America and Europe between late 2007 and early 2008.
They last performed on a global platform when they sang during the 2012 London Olympic Games closing ceremony.
Since early 2016, there have been rumors of a partial to a full reunion tour of the Spice Girls.
Mel B, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner registered a name for a band using their initials GEM — but the band faced a legal contest from Mel C and Vicky B, and the project never came to fruition.
Earlier this year, there was speculation the group would reform to perform at the wedding of
Prince Harry and
Meghan Markle, but this also never came to pass.
