Comedian, actor, singer and writer, also known for co-founding Comic Relief. Last night he appeared on BBC’s The One Show, where he shocked fans with his drastic new look - how did he do it?
Lenny Henry, 59, is one of the most famous and respected comedians in Britain, beginning his career over 40 years ago.
Last night the knighted comic appeared on BBC’s The One Show, where he discussed plans for his upcoming 60th birthday party.
Birthday aside, it was his new frame that had fans talking, with the star believed to have lost a whopping three stone.
Lenny was once married to fellow comedian Dawn French, but initially lost the weight after splitting with his wife in 2011.
The 59-year-old was inspired to lose weight after he was diagnosed with various health problems, vowing to himself that he would cut back on sugar, booze and biscuits.
Talking to The Mirror Lenny said: “I've lost between two-and-a-half and three stone, I was big. You've got to eat no sugar and drink hardly any alcohol... all the stuff you like. You can't Hobnob your way through the day.”
Since 2011 the comedian and actor has kept the weight off, contributing his further weight loss to a play he was in.
Lenny revealed that while he was in The Comedy of Errors at London’s National Theatre, the actors were put on a strict workout regime.
Along with eating well, Lenny was told to do yoga, dance, pilates and military exercise for four hours a day.
On top of cutting out sugar and exercising more, the father-of-one also eats a lot of vegetables, helping him maintain his new trim figure.
He has since slimmed down even more, debuting his smaller frame at a special gala performance of The Jungle at London’s Playhouse Theatre in June.
Lenny told The Mail On Sunday: “Well, it’s eating broccoli and not much else. I’ve also been running a lot. It has worked.”
He does plan however to break his diet for his upcoming milestone birthday on 29th August.
Talking on The One Show last night Lenny spilled that he is having “a bit of a do” and plans to have lots of “pies and prosecco”.
Another famous Briton who lost an impressive amount of weight by cutting booze and sugar out is celebrity chef, Tom Kerridge.
Tom Kerridge, 44, is a Michelin-starred chef, having worked in the world of food for over 27 years.
The chef once weighed in at a staggering 30 stone, realising at the age of 40 that he was unhappy with his weight, and deciding to turn his life around.
Standing at 6’3" he now weighs a healthy 18 stone, after deciding to overhaul his diet four years ago.
The 44-year-old chef contributes his former overweight frame to drinking too much and eating too much rubbish, deciding to cut out booze and overhaul his diet.
Following his revelation, Tom shared that he now follows the lesser-known “dopamine diet" in order to keep his weight in check.
