CLEVELAND –
Kevin Durant added two more trophies to his controversial case – again.
The
Golden State star defended his
Finals MVP crown on Friday at Quicken Loans Arena, where the
Warriors completed the sweep of
Cleveland Cavaliers with a 108-85 win in
Game 4. Durant, whose decision to join this super team in the summer of 2016 continues to spark so much debate, won by a media vote of 7-4 over Steph Curry.
Durant averaged a team-high 28.8 points in the series while shooting 52.6% overall and 40.9% from three-point range. His all-around game was on display for most of the series too, with Durant adding 10.8 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.0 blocks per game. Yet while his 20-point, 12-rebound, 10-assist outing in Game 4 was the first triple-double of his playoff career, it was his transcendent Game 3 performance – 43 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists – that will go down as the most memorable of these Finals.
Curry had a strong finish as well: 37 points (seven-of-15 from three-point range), six rebounds, four assists. For the series, Curry averaged 27.5 points (40.2% overall, 41.5% from three-point range), 6.8 assists and six rebounds.
