ARMED police have swooped on a south
London road amid reports a man has been blasted in the face in a double
shooting - just an hour after another man was stabbed elsewhere in the capital.
An air ambulance landed near the scene of the incident in
Peckham.
One resident wrote on Facebook: “Someone’s been shot in the face on Southampton Way outside Oliver Goldsmith school.
“Road is blocked, armed police walking around.”
A photo of the scene published online showed a car with its door ajar and one of its windows smashed as armed police stood nearby.
Police said a man was found with gunshot injuries and has been rushed to hospital. Another man was also found injured nearby.
A spokesman for the Met Police said: “Police in Southwark were called to Wodehouse Avenue, SE5 at 1956hrs on Saturday, 2 June following reports of a shooting.
“Armed police attended and found a man suffering from gun shot injuries.
"He has been taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service. We await an update on his condition.
“A second man was also found with injuries at the scene and has been taken to hospital for assessment. His condition is believed to be stable.
“No arrests have been made. A crime scene remains in place. Enquiries continue.”
The shooting came just an hour after a man in his 30s was stabbed near Greenwich train station in south east London.
He has also been rushed to hospital but his condition is not yet known.
And both incidents come after a string of violent episodes in London over the past few days, including a man who was blasted in a drive-by shooting.
