train has crashed into a truck stuck on rail tracks near
Turin in
Italy leaving at least two dead and 18 injured.
The engineer of the train was the first killed after the train collided with the truck at 11.20pm local time (10.20pm GMT) last night.
A passenger who was severely injured laster died while being taken to hospital in a helicopter.
Rescue teams were on the scene searching for any trapped passengers.
Photos of the scene show the train torn apart by the horrifying collision as emergency services desperately attend the crash.
A crew member of the train was reported to be less seriously injured in addition to other passengers.
It is understood most of the 18 injured were not in a critical state.
The driver of the truck was not injured, local media added.
The vehicle was carrying a number plate from Lithuania and was driving to a warehouse close to where the crash took place.
The Italian Rail Network said the barrier to the tracks had been lowered before the locomotive passed by.
It is unknown why or how the truck made its way onto the train tracks.
Three cars from the locomotive were derailed following the incident.
A passenger on the train told ANSA she broke her leg in the crash and “feared she would die”.
The train departed from Turin at 10.30pm local time (9.30pm GMT).
Turin is the capital city of Piedmont and is located in northern Italy.
