POLICE have launched a
murder investigation after a man was stabbed to death in a shocking broad daylight attack in
Islington this afternoon.
Emergency services responded to reports of a man suffering stab wounds in Upper Street at 6.30pm.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He is the 66th person to have been murdered in
London this year.
Police have sealed off the scene of the attack and road closures are in place.
Scotland Yard said no arrests have been made and enquiries are continuing.
This latest attack comes as the Metropolitan Police released a picture of a 28-year-old man who was stabbed to death in Mitchum, southwest London, over the weekend.
Arunesh Thangarajah was found in Upper Green East with multiple stab wounds in the early hours of Sunday (May 20).
The Sri Lankan national, of no fixed address, died at the scene.
A 44-year-old man has been charged with his murder.
Manimaran Selliah, of London Road, Mitcham, has also been charged with the attempted GBH of a 35-year-old man.
Detectives are appealing for further information on the fatal attack, which took place at around 3.30am.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Harding said: "We will be speaking to locals and continue to appeal for those who witnessed the attack or have information to get in touch.
“I fully appreciate the alarm this incident has caused within the area. This attack is not being treated as gang-related or racially motivated.
“The local community can expect to see my team in and around the area as the investigation continues apace.
“I would encourage anyone with concerns to speak with officers or contact their local neighbourhood policing teams."
