Manchester United could make an interesting decision for today’s
FA Cup final showdown with
Chelsea, according to Martin Keown.
Manchester United and Chelsea lock horns at Wembley this afternoon with the FA Cup trophy on the line.
Jose Mourinho’s sides go into the contest as slight favourites, having finished above the Blues in the
Premier League.
Chelsea, however, will be confident of beating Manchester United with
Antonio Conte determined to end a turbulent campaign on a high.
Yet Keown can foresee Mourinho making an ‘interesting’ tactical tinkering for today’s game.
“It will be interesting to see if he tries to copy Chelsea’s system and lines up with a back three,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“He tried that at Stamford Bridge in November last year and lost 1-0.
“When Chelsea visited Old Trafford in February, Mourinho then reverted to a back four and United won 2-1.
“Chelsea were so poor against Newcastle last weekend. Their players looked like they were no longer enjoying their football.
“The temptation for United would be to go for it, yet neither team have ended the season in particularly prolific form.
“I can see Mourinho setting up to slug it out with Chelsea and hoping that his team produce more quality in the final third.”
Mourinho has won 12 of his last 14 finals.
He has also won all six that have taken place in England, with United on the receiving end back in 2007.
The Red Devils had recently taken Chelsea’s Premier League crown.
But Didier Drogba scored for the Blues to ensure their campaign end on a high.
