THIS is the shock moment a man appears to slash at
police with a SWORD in a horrifying incident in
Manchester, which has left one officer in hospital with "serious injuries".
One police officer has been left with “serious injuries” while another had “blood on his face” following the attack.
Video taken at the scene shows police surrounding a garden. One officer approaches the path holding what appears to be a Taser.
Suddenly he retreats and a man races out, sending officers tumbling against a police van.
The man is forced to the ground but can then be seen swinging what police have described as a “sword” at officers.
Despite being at the floor he repeatedly hacks at officers before finally being detained.
Police said they used Taser "for the safety of everyone at the scene".
Photos taken at the scene appear to indicate two separate swords have been recovered.
Passersby were left traumatised by the incident, which took place at around 1.50pm in Upper Chorlton Road in the Whalley Range area of the city.
Police said: “A 23-year-old man has been arrested after a police officer was slashed with a sword in Whalley Range.
“The incident happened about 1.50pm today on Demesne Road.
“The officer is currently in hospital with serious injuries.
“A number of roads remain closed.”
