Princess Diana asked former royal butler
Paul Burrell to smuggle her boyfriends into Kensington Palace, according to sensational claims in an explosive new book.
Mr Burrell’s lawyer reportedly handed the police a 39-page statement from the royal butler which detailed the People’s Princess’ demands for her lovers, including private meals and sneaking them in and out of the palace.
The book Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles by Tom Bower claims Mr Burrell was also asked to cancel public engagements so Diana could spend time with her ‘man of the moment’.
The statement is said to have formed part Mr Burrell’s legal strategy to persuade Charles to have a court case against the royal butler dropped.
Mr Burrell was accused of stealing dozens of items from Kensington Palace that had once belonged to the late Princess Diana.
The trial eventually collapsed in November 2002 and the case against the former royal butler was dropped.
The explosive book also claimed that Mr Burrell hinted he would also release details about Diana’s alleged nocturnal visits to Paddington where the Princess tried to persuade prostitutes to give up their trade with gifts.
These shock claims are among dozens made by insiders in the book about the second in line to the throne.
Taking a swipe at the other woman in Charles’ life, Camilla Parker-Bowles, the book claimed his future wife was quick to embrace a life of royal privilege.
The Duchess of Cornwall is said to have quickly become accustomed to a life of luxury including private jets and lavish yachts after her marriage to the Queen’s eldest son.
Reportedly influenced by her new husband Charles, who had developed a list of demands, even including taking his own toilet seat while travelling, Camilla grew a taste for the chartered jets, extra security and chauffeur-driven cars, often at the expense of the British taxpayer.
Just three years into her marriage to Charles, Camilla was already stipulating her travel arrangements and meal arrangements, according to the book.
To reinforce his wife’s higher profile, Charles reportedly requested that flags should fly on public buildings on Camilla’s birthday.
At Camilla’s request, the Prince of Wales’ private secretary also provided her with a chauffeur-driven car.
And by 2008 the Duchess is said to have demanded a private jet for a visit to New York where she would accompany Charles for a Global Environmental Citizen award.
When the Foreign Office insisted the couple fly British Airways, the Duchess reportedly dug her heels in and claimed she had a cut hand, which would prevent her from travelling.
Camilla eventually agreed to fly on the BA plane with Charles.
A spokeswoman for Clarence House previously told the Express.co.uk they would not comment on the claims made in the book.
