MESUT OZIL is signing a new Arsenal contract because of the recent transfer business the club has completed, according to Sky Germany reporter Max Bielefeld.
Ozil has reportedly ended months of speculation by agreeing a three-and-a-half-year extension at Arsenal.
The Germany international is to become the club’s highest paid player, earning £350,000-a-week.
The news comes just hours after Arsenal completed the club-record signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for around £60million.
Ahead of hearing the Ozil news, Bielefeld claimed that deal had a big impact on the future of the 29-year-old.
“We can’t confirm that information as of now,” Bielfeld said on Sky Sports News.
“But one thing is for sure, Mesut Ozil told us the renewal of his contract always depended on what Arsenal did.
“He always wanted new players coming in, he always wants to be in a team which is really competitive at the highest level.
“Of course they lost Alexis Sanchez but they brought in (Henrikh) Mkhitaryan, they brought in now Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, they brought in (Alexandre) Lacazette in the summer.
“All those circumstances could lead to the renewal of Ozil’s contract at Arsenal.
“But for now we can’t confirm that information.”
