THESE stunning photographs show a colourful military parade with troops, soldiers on camels and tanks to mark India’s 69th Republic Day 2018.
Republic Day of India marks the day that India adopted its constitution in 1950 after gaining independence at the end of British rule.
Today’s military parade in New Dehli featured marching troops, military bands, shows of tanks, missiles and other military hardware and camel-mounted paramilitary troops.
The parade was followed by a cultural extravaganza of motorbike stunts, dances, floats, gymnastics as well as tableaux from Indian states.
Leaders from India and the the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) watched the two-hour display in the Indian capital ceremonial boulevard, the Rajpath.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: “We celebrate Republic Day and remember the great women and men who gave us a Constitution we are extremely proud of.
“I thank the ASEAN leaders for joining the Republic Day celebrations.”
The Indian Prime Minister laid a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate to remember soldiers who have died in battle. He tweeted: "Paid homage at Amar Jawan Jyoti."
His office posted on Twitter: “Today, 1.25 billion Indians will have the honour to host 10 esteemed guests - leaders of Asean nations - at India's Republic Day celebrations in our capital, New Delhi.”
