BILLIONAIRE Elon Musk has revealed his mega-rocket which he plans to launch within weeks, it has been revealed.
The Falcon Heavy is scheduled to blast off from Cape Canaveral on the same pad as the Saturn V Apollo 11 moon rocket on its first unmanned mission next month.
Mr Musk also said he will carry his own Tesla Roadster which will be sent flying to Mars playing David Bowie.
The billionaire said: “Falcon Heavy to launch next month from Apollo 11 pad at the Cape. Will have double the thrust of next largest rocket.
“Guaranteed to be exciting, one way or another.”
Mr Musk said David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” on full blast as it makes its way to Mars.
He added: "Payload will be my midnight cherry Tesla Roadster playing Space Oddity. Destination is Mars orbit.
"Will be in deep space for a billion years or so if it doesn't blow up on ascent."
But he told The Verge that he made the story up, although insiders say the plan is actually real.
He later said the car was chosen as a “red car for a red planet”.
The mission marks the most ambitious for his space agency, SpaceX.
SpaceX was founded in 2002 with the aim of reducing space transportation costs and enabling the colonisation of Mars.
However Mr Musk has admitted there is a significant chance that the Falcon Heavy rocket test could fail.
Speaking of the rocket in July, he said: "I hope it makes it far enough away from the pad that it does not cause pad damage.
"I would consider even that a win, to be honest."
The rocket could revolutionise transport on Earth as well as in Space.
The vessel would be able to take off and land vertically and for Earth travel will take off from floating launchpads moored outside major cities.
It would be able to fly from New York to Tokyo in about 30 minutes and anywhere in under an hour.
Musk claims the “cost per seat should be about the same as full fare economy in an aircraft”.
He added: “Once you are out of the atmosphere, it would be as smooth as silk, no turbulence, nothing.
“There's no weather... and you can get to most long-distance places in less than half-an-hour.”
